ADJOURNMENT July 2, 2018 The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service Commission: Steve Wheeler and Kathleen Wilson. Others in attendance were Fire Chief Jay Wittwer, Deputy Police Chief Rick Mitchell, and Michelle Godyn, HR Analyst/Civil Service Examiner. CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Steve Wheeler called the meeting to order at 4:50 pm. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The June 4, 2018, minutes were approved. No corrections were noted. FIRE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Chief Wittwer presented the Tukwila Fire Department (TFD) storyline of attrition and pipeline positions in 2017 and 2018. He explained the why, how, and goals of the department in finding balance to sustain staffing levels. Currently, TFD has 7 FTE in administration and 60 suppression employees. 2 to 5 expected to retire over the summer of 2018. The department reserved 5 spots in the September Fire Academy. There are 5 st entry level firefighters pending to completing 1 phase of background process. The goal by September 2018 is staffing with 7 FTE administration and 63 suppression employees. POLICE DEPARTMENT BUSINESS Staffing Update Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell was in attendance in place of Police Chief Bruce Linton. Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell presented the Commission a staffing update. Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell reported that the police department has 79 commissioned police officer positions. 6 positions are vacant, 2 detectives pending for retirement, 2 in FTO, and 7 are on light duty totaling 62 full duty officers. There are 4 entry level police officers in backgrounds process to fill 3 out of the 6 vacant commissioned officer positions. Non – commissioned staff, there are 19 positions with 1 staff in light duty, 2 admin coordinators in training, and Police Support Officer position going through Chief’s interviews on July 9, 2018 with 3 candidates. Certification of Police Sergeant The Civil Service Examiner advised the Commissioners the eligibility Eligibility List list for 2017 – 2018 Police Sergeant was depleted due to a candidate withdrawing. Promotional Police Sergeant testing was completed on June 26, 2018 and a new eligibility list presented with 2 candidates. MOVED BY WHEELER, SECOND BY WILSON THAT THE ELIGIBILITY LIST BE CERTIFIED AND BE VALID FOR ONE YEAR COMMENCING JULY 2, 2018 OR UNTIL DEPLETED. MOTION PASSED.
