PARK COMMISSION
MINUTES
May 9, 2018 5:30pm Tukwila Community Center
CaII to Order: Chairperson Don Scanlon called the meeting to order at 5:33pm.
Attendance: Commissioners — Don Scanlon, Scott Kruize, Ivan Cockrum, Sean Albert, Matt Mega
Staff— Robert Eaton
Approval of Minutes: Sean Albert moved to approve the minutes of the April 11, 2018 meeting. Scott Kruize
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Special Presentations: none
Citizen Comment: none
Business Items
A. Green Tukwila Update — Robert Eaton pointed out a few of the highlights from the monthly report.
B. Acquisition — Robert Eaton shared about a parcel along the Duwamish River that the owner is interested
in selling it to the city to preserve the green space along the river. City staff have applied for grant funding
and are awaiting results on that as to whether or not the city will be able to purchase the land.
C. S 128th St Parcel Naming— No discussion as Heidi Watters was not in attendance.
Other:
A. The rest of the name badges were handed out to the commissioners.
B. Nerissa Metully will likely be appointed to the Park Commission by the next meeting.
C. Scot Kruize shared with the Commission his take -a -ways from attending the WRPA Conference.
D. Sean Albert updated the Commission on Puget Sound Clean Air's grant for the Allentown Tree Planting
Program that will provide about forty large trees for residents to plant in their yards. He also mentioned
that there is an opportunity for trees to be given to the city for planting in public property as well. The
Commission talked about Duwamish Park as a potential good location for that.
E. At Don Scanlon's request, Robert Eaton provided a quick power point presentation on the 30%
Conceptual Plan for Tukwila Pond.
F. Robert Eaton informed the Park Commission that he will be on vacation for the June meeting, so another
staff member will be in attendance for the meeting.
G. Robert Eaton reminded the Commission that the July 11, meeting is the same night as the See You in the
Park at Joseph Foster Park and that in past years the Commission has cancelled the meeting in order to be
able to attend the event.
Motion: Matt Mega moved to cancel the July 11, 2018 Park Commission Meeting to allow the Commissioners the
opportunity to attend the event and connect with the neighbors. Sean Albert seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
Adjournment: At 6:38pm Scott Kruize moved to close the meeting. Matt Mega seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
