Call to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:03 pm 2. Attendance: Commissioners —Trish Gilmore, Cynthia Chesak, Sheila Coppola, Daniel Humkey and Yuriko Rollins Absent: Alex Villella, Helen Enguerra Guests: Noe Rodriguez, Eliza Fox Staff — Stephanie Gardner -Brown 3. Approval of Agenda: Trisha Gilmore moved to accept the agenda. Sheila Coppola seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Approval of Minutes: Sheila Coppola moved to accept the minutes, noting one correction. Trisha Gilmore seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 5. Introduction of Guests: Arts Commissioners briefly introduced themselves followed by two guest introductions. Eliza Fox, Tukwila resident since 2000, is a filmmaker and is interested in the commission and the difference art can make in the community. Noe Rodriguez was born and raised in Tukwila and continues to reside in the City. He is a musician and is interested in performing arts and outreach in Tukwila. 6. Unfinished Business: a. Fine Arts Show: the following has been confirmed: • Music, Vivian Dao, a classical pianist will perform at the artist reception on May 11, 2018. • Food: Trisha Gilmore made a motion to provide dessert bites consisting of fruit, cheese, sweet treats and beverages. Sheila seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously. • Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners in each category, arts commissioners are exempt. • Commissioners asked if there was follow-up to be completed with the judge. Staff will coordinate, if needed. • Tags: discussion around artwork tags included the need to add media to the tag. • The Commission would like to use three "A" frame boards the day of the art show, to be placed outside the entrance doors leading into the show. Daniel Humkey will create signs for the frames and email to staff to print. 7. New Business There was no new business. 1 8. Sub -Committee Reports a. Visual Arts: See art show notes located in unfinished business. b. Performing Arts: Cynthia Chesak attended a recent Rainier Symphony performance. Ms. Chesak stated a meeting needs to occur with various stakeholders of the Foster Performing Arts Center (the City and Tukwila School District) to ensure technical support and maintenance needs are being completed for the symphony and other facility rental users. c. Outreach: Several Arts Commissioners have distributed Art Show information cards throughout Tukwila and the region. d. Staff Report: Budget: ➢ The Mayor's office adjusted the Arts Commission budget by $2,500 to account for Citywide expenditure reduction. ➢ New Request: The City is working with Shag for a Tukwila Village event on July 21, 2018 from 1-4pm. Staff will present a proposal at the May Arts Commission meeting to support the opening event by providing entertainment and an interactive teaching artist sponsored by TAC. Other ➢ A tablecloth with the new logo has been ordered (2 sets). Also ordered 1,000 TAC logo stickers (half dollar size) to be used for mailings or giveaways. ➢ The Tukwila Municipal Arts Plan will be presented to the Community Development and Neighborhoods Council Committee on Tuesday, April 24th at 5:30pm (Tukwila City Hall, Hazelnut Conference Room). Tentatively scheduled for Committee of the Whole on Monday, May 14th, followed by the Regular Council Meeting on May 21'. TAC members are encouraged to attend any of the meetings. ➢ Reminder that the newly formed Seatac Arts Commission have invited TAC to attend their May 9th meeting (Seatac City Hall, 4800 S 188th St, 5:30-7pm) — Sheila and Alex will be our representatives. 9. Other: Commissioners asked about the status of business cards. 10. Agenda for Next/Future Meetings: The Commission requested a budget review, reflecting reductions. 11. Adjournment: Daniel Humkey motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:25 pm, Trisha Gilmore seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously. 2
