HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOPCAB 2018-03-08 Minutes COPCAB Minutes March 8, 2018 6:30pm-8:00pm Members Present: Jerry Thornton, Kim Karns, Roger Arnold, Jan Bolerjack, John Lindsey Staff Present: Chris Partman, Chief Linton Guest:  Minutes for 2/8/18 meeting approved as corrected  Chief’s update:  Staffing – Since last month we lost a police candidate out of background and received 1 more resignation.  We have 6 in training and 3 in background  Eight employees on light duty.  Only 61 officers on full duty right now  Recruiting is a high priority right now  Only 16 out of 19 civilian employees currently on duty  Hopefully, late March and early April they will be ready to hit the street.  Department news  Four Sgts. and two hopeful Sgts. in leadership training in Lakewood. This is one week each month.  Support Division is really busy, 1,130 public records requests already this year.  Special Operations is still working with the homelessness issues and has put together a homeless task force. TIS has put together an app for use with homeless issues. The CLO and CPT teams have been busy up at Foster HS. They are also developing cultural awareness training for the entire dept. Have been doing a lot of emphasis at the Villages at South Station and also at the mall.  Professional Standards is working to get online reporting up and running for TPD. Implementing an internal investigation tracking software called AIM. Both should be going online with this sometime in May.  Questions:  Does the rape kit law affect TPD? It does not affect Tukwila nearly as hard as other agencies because we keep more up to date and are a smaller department. Title or Addressee Date Page 2  What about taking the word “malice” out of police officer accountability legislation? There was some sort of negotiation between the association of Sheriffs and Chiefs and the people seeking the legislation. TPD does not have a lot of concerns about this.  Has there been any additional fallout from the community from the ICE detainer arrest? Not so far, we have been transparent and work with concerned communities about what happens and what changes the department has made. TPD is still carefully reviewing the call.  Did the Tukwila City Council make any changes or adopt any ordinances? Not yet, the Council is looking into it and has started the process to enact an ordinance.  Has the car in the river been removed? So far, the vehicle has not been found in the river. The driver is in custody because he tried to break into the pro shop at the golf course for dry clothes.  COPCAB Project:  Survey  App for mobile and also through the Tukwila Web site  Business cards  A phone number/email to get a paper copy  Volunteer teams to spread the word, two person teams  Email of documents and ideas with a request for folks to send in additional questions.  Good of the Order  John – UAS demonstration from TPD for the Civil Air Patrol He will confirm with the Chief.  Chris – CAP , required training to be sent out.  Jerry – New Community Crime Mapping, is it launched yet? If so, how does the public get to it. Will there be a Valley Com Academy soon? That is up to VC. Does the PD subscribe to “Governing”? Rick will look into it. Does TPD subscribe to the Gordon Graham videos? Yes.
