We have 6 in training and 3 in background
Eight employees on light duty.
Only 61 officers on full duty right now
Recruiting is a high priority right now
Only 16 out of 19 civilian employees currently on duty

Department news
Four Sgts. and two hopeful Sgts. in leadership training in Lakewood.
This is one week each month.
Support Division is really busy, 1,130 public records requests already
this year.
Special Operations is still working with the homelessness issues and
has put together a homeless task force. TIS has put together an app
for use with homeless issues. The CLO and CPT teams have been
busy up at Foster HS. They are also developing cultural awareness
training for the entire dept. Have been doing a lot of emphasis at the
Villages at South Station and also at the mall.
Professional Standards is working to get online reporting up and
running for TPD. Implementing an internal investigation tracking
software called AIM. Both should be going online with this sometime
in May.
Questions:
Does the rape kit law affect TPD? It does not affect Tukwila nearly as
hard as other agencies because we keep more up to date and are a
smaller department.

What about taking the word “malice” out of police officer
accountability legislation? There was some sort of negotiation
between the association of Sheriffs and Chiefs and the people seeking
the legislation. TPD does not have a lot of concerns about this.
Has there been any additional fallout from the community from the
ICE detainer arrest? Not so far, we have been transparent and work
with concerned communities about what happens and what changes
the department has made. TPD is still carefully reviewing the call.
Did the Tukwila City Council make any changes or adopt any
ordinances? Not yet, the Council is looking into it and has started the
process to enact an ordinance.
Has the car in the river been removed? So far, the vehicle has not
been found in the river. The driver is in custody because he tried to
break into the pro shop at the golf course for dry clothes.
