Tukwila Library Advisory Board (TLAB) Committee Minutes
April 7, 2015 Tukwila Community Center
Attendance: Sharon Kidd (Chair), Linda McLeod, Steve Miller (Treasurer), Gerie Ventura (Secretary)
Staff: Tracy Gallaway (Tukwila Parks & Recreation), Stephanie Gardner (Tukwila Parks & Recreation), Darth
Nielsen (KCLS), KCLS Intern,
Approval of minutes: We reviewed the 2015 TLAB minutes from January 6 and February 3. It was moved by
Sharon and seconded by Linda to approve both the January and February minutes as written. Both motions
carried.
Business Items:
1. Foster
found a performer for the August festival. Darth reported that there has been more active coordination
of activities planning between KCLS and Tukwila Parks & Recreation staff. The KCLS bookmobile will be at the
Tukwila Backyard Wildlife event. Stephanie said that TLAB is welcome to have a booth at the same event.
Linda, Marie, and Sharon recently volunteered at the Tukwila Dr. Seuss event, which we sponsored with $500 in
book purchases.
Darth reported on summertime
The bookmobile will be visiting many local events.
2. City staffing update: Shannon and other staff like Tracy Galla
Stephanie will be stepping back. Sharon commended her on her work and assistance in recent years.
3. Meeting schedule: we can consider moving the meeting to another start time other than 7pm.Meetings can
be quarterly instead of monthly. Friends meetings are not city meetings and should be removed from the
official TLAB agenda and minutes. Tukwila Parks & Recreation staff do not have to attend Friends meetings.
Stephanie handed out the Tukwila Municipal Code that describes this in detail and suggested that we can
think about it more in future meetings.
TABLED: This topic will be tabled until Marie can be here to participate in this discussion.
4. Discussed the idea of growing the Tukwila Friends group. Linda asked if it would make a difference if the
Friends meeting was held at the Foster Library. Darth said that some friends groups only have one big official
meeting per year.
5. Stephanie reported that the Tukwila Volunteer Ice Cream party is scheduled for Thursday, April 16 from 5pm
6:30pm.
6. We agreed to cancel the May TLAB meeting since Marie cannot attend.
Adjournment: It was moved by Steve to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Linda and the meeting was
adjourned at 8:05pm.
