• Minutes for 8/9/18 meeting approved

• Chiefs update:
• TPD continues to work with staffing issues. Deputy Chief Mitchell retired at
the end of August. Officer Lancaster's last day is this week. Several officers
are going to other agencies, the background checks are almost finished.
• Question — why are they leaving? Partly compensation, new people are not
interested in a LE career and with the strength of the economy, people have lots
of other choices. The Chief is working with the Mayor and City Manager about
what to do to enable TPD to be fully staffed. This year each department was
asked to give back 3% of their budget due to lower than predicted revenues to
the city. Every agency in the area is competing for the same candidates, both
new and lateral.
• Question: When we get lateral officers do they have to go through the same
process. Yes, we do a full interview/background investigation. Then they go
into a 2-week lateral academy and out with an FTO for 6 weeks.
• Question: Where are we with our Foster High School SRO? Officer Joe Tran
is full-time at Foster High School.
• Question: Where are we with the budget? We are working on fully staffing the
department.
• Question: Does the Chief know the interim School District Superintend? Not
yet. Jan will assist with contact information.
• Looking to create a position of a public safety budget analyst
• Demonstration of new crime mapping application

• COPCAB Project:
• Working to make sure the app the TS Department has is one which will do all
the things COPCAB members expect

• Jerry — Received a request for funds from a "Police Survivors Fund" and
asked if it was legitimate. The Chief had not heard of it. DOJ has a Oct 3`d
coffee with a cop, is Tukwila doing one that day. TPD is not, we do them on
our own schedule. Asked how online reporting is going, well so far. Will try
to get statistics on it. The water utilities are looking at keeping UAS out of
their airspace to prevent contamination. The Chief recommended getting the
areas designated as a "no fly" area by the FAA and then start to look at
countermeasures.
