The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service
Commission: Steve Wheeler and Ron Johnston. Others in attendance were Fire Chief Jay Wittwer, Deputy Police
Chief Rick Mitchell, and Michelle Godyn, HR Analyst/Civil Service Examiner.
CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Steve Wheeler called the meeting to order at 4:58 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES The July 2, 2018, minutes were approved. No corrections were noted.
GENERAL BUSINESS
SEPTEMBER MEETING Due to the Labor Day Holiday on 1s` Monday of the month, the
Commissioners agreed to cancel September Civil Service Meeting. The
Examiner will post the cancellation.

Staffing Update
Chief Mitchell requested to the Commissioners to have the Civil Service
Meeting being held every 2' Monday of every month due to conflicting
schedules with Public Safety Meeting being held every 1st Monday of the
month.

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2018 CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
MEETING WILL BE HELD 2' MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH.
Chief Wittwer presented the Commission a staffing update. Chief
Wittwer explained the IAFF contract was ratified 2 weeks ago. Received
3 more request to retire totaling 6 retirements by December. The
department reserved 6 spots in the September Fire Academy. There are 6
entry level firefighters scheduled to complete 2nd phase background.
Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell was in attendance in place of Police Chief
Bruce Linton. Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell presented the Commission a
staffing update. Deputy Chief Rick Mitchell reported that the police
department has 79 commissioned police officer positions. 4 Entry Level
Police and 1 Police Support Officer positions are in background, 1
Officer on maternity leave, 2 Officers in FTO, and 5 Officer are on light
duty totaling 64 full duty officers.
