The AiRs will have an office at the Tukwila Community Center. AiR Sarah Kavage had an
opportunity to introduce herself to the commission and answer any questions. AiR Olisa

b. Creative Consultancy Update — The staff liaison gave a brief overview regarding the
program. The City of Tukwila is one of fifteen organizations that applied to have a Creative
Consultancy. There were more than 80 artists that applied for the program. Each
organization that applied can select 3-5 artists to interview for the program. Trisha
Gilmore, Sheila Coppola and the staff liaison will coordinate with other city staff and the
Lodging Tax Advisory Committee to determine the artists to be interviewed for the Tukwila
Creative Consultancy since it will be focused on the Southcenter District area of Tukwila.

have scheduled a free community concert at the Sullivan Center on Sunday, October 21st at
2:00pm. This is the same day that the Rainier Symphony has a 3pm concert scheduled at
the Foster Performing Arts Center.
7. New Business
a. Arts Commissioner Daniel Humkey resigned from the Arts Commission, effective
September. The staff liaison will work with the commission to develop a recruitment tool
to fill the vacancy.
b. Park Bench proposal — The Parks Maintenance staff has proposed to repaint a bench at TCC
with an art design. The conceptual design was presented to the Arts Commission for
review. The Arts Commission was receptive to this idea and proposed that all three of the
1
benches near the entrance be painted. Arts Commissioners Sheila Coppola and Trisha
Gilmore volunteered to paint the other two benches. Everyone on the commission agreed
to conduct this pilot and brainstormed ways that community feedback could be collected
to see how this was received by the community and if it is a project the Arts Commission
could promote to local artists in 2019. The staff liaison will coordinate a meeting to
determine the next steps.
8. Sub -Committee Reports
a. Visual Arts:
• TCC Art Wall -- it was determined that the Artists in Residence will be featured on the art
wall in November and December.
• Art Lobby/Gallery — a subcommittee will be meeting to review the City's art collection
and determine if there are enough quality pieces to create a gallery area in the west
entrance lobby at the Tukwila Community Center (near the existing Art Wall).
b. Performing Arts:
• Rainier Symphony — The Rainier Symphony was announced their 2018-2019 season. Arts
Commissioners received information regarding the performances and complimentary
tickets. The staff liaison distributed a tracking sheet for the complimentary tickets and
asked that commissioners track their personal use as well as any free tickets they pass
out to other community members. Tracking forms should be turned in to the staff liaison
at the completion of the season in June 2019.
c. Outreach: No report.
d. Staff Report:
• Budget: Discussion regarding current expenditures and available funds (for the
remainder of 2018). Cynthia Chesak suggested that the commission should pay for a
plaque for Russell Bradley's artwork that is on display at the Tukwila Historical Society.
Commissioners were receptive to this idea. The staff liaison asked that Cynthia design
the plaque and get pricing to present to the commission at the October meeting.
• Workplan: Discussion regarding opportunities for impact in 2019. Commissioners were
asked to bring their top 3 priorities for 2019 to the next meeting so that a work plan can
be developed.
9. Other:
a. Cynthia Chesak reminded Arts Commissioners that if they were interested they could
purchase apparel with the Tukwila Arts Commission logo (such as shirts and jackets). The
cost for these items would be personally incurred. The staff liaison will bring a catalog of
apparel items to the next meeting for the commissioners to see their options.
b. Commissioners noted that the clock tower that was installed on site at Tukwila Village
didn't appear to be working. The staff liaison said she would investigate the matter and
report back at the next meeting.
