The following commissioners attended the regularly scheduled meeting of the Tukwila Civil Service
Commission: Ron Johnston, Steve Wheeler, and Kathleen Wilson. Others in attendance were Fire Chief Jay
Wittwer, Police Chief Bruce Linton, Deputy Police Chief Eric Dreyer, Interim HR Director Bill Kolden, and
Michelle Godyn, HR Analyst/Civil Service Examiner.
CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Steve Wheeler called the meeting to order at 4:50 pm.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES The August 6, 2018, minutes were approved. No corrections were noted.

Staffing Update
Michelle Godyn, Civil Service Examiner introduced Interim HR Director
Bill Kolden to the Commissioners.
Michelle Godyn, Civil Service Examiner, asked to the Civil Service
Commissioners due to the Veteran's Day Observance held on Monday,
November 12, 2018 if Civil Service Meeting next month to be cancelled
or rescheduled to Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 5:OOPM.

RESCEDULE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING ON
TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2018 AT 5:OOPM.
Dalton Murray, candidate for Police Support Officer, submitted a timely
written appeal to the Civil Service Commission regarding his tentative
offer being rescinded and removal from the eligibility list after not
passing the Police Department background process. Mr. Murray did not
show up to the appeal hearing at 5:OOPM. A courtesy phone call was
made to Mr. Murray by 5:15PM and the call was not answered.
Chief Wittwer presented the Commission a staffing update. Chief
Wittwer explained there are 6 entry level firefighters recruits who
attended the Fire Academy on September 4, 2018, but one recruit failed
after 3 weeks and was released from the Fire Academy. The remaining 5
recruits will be graduating on January 24, 2019. For the 6th position, a
tentative offer was made to Troy Miller for the next Fire Academy in
February 2019. The entry level firefighter eligibility list is now
exhausted. Entry Level Recruitment began October 1, 2018 and oral

boards to establishment of new eligibility list will begin on October 15th,
2018.
Police Chief Bruce Linton presented the Commission a staffing update.
Police Chief Linton reported that the Police department has 79
commissioned police officer positions. 4 Retirements, 2 Lateral Police
resignations totaling 8 vacancies. There are 5 Lateral Officers in FTO, 5
Officers on light duty, 1 Officer on maternity leave, and 1 Officer on
Military Leave. Entry Level Police Recruitment there is 1 Entry Level
Police Officer in background and Chiefs interview for Entry Level
candidates being held on October 18, 2018. Non -Commissioned Officers
19 positions, 1 vacancy in Police Records Specialist, oral boards to
establish eligibility list this week by October 15t1i, 2018, and Final offer
made to Johnathan Long for Police Support Officer position.
