Teens for Tukwila/City Council Meeting
Location: Tukwila Community Center
Date: November 29, 2018
Start: 6:30 p.m.
End: 7:45 p.m.
PRESENT
City Council: Dennis Robertson, De'Sean Quinn, Kate Kruller, Thomas McLeod, Zak Idan
Teens for Tukwila: Akeela Olebar-Dowers, Chris Symonette, Melina Quach, Kellina Camacho,
Victoria Amarillas, Solyana Tesfai, Furtuna Tesfai, Rachel Jackson, Jared Jackson, Nisha Bk, Jadon
Crawford, and Caden Crawford
Staff: Nate Robinson
• Ice -breaker and introductions:
o Each Teens for Tukwila member said their name, grade, and somewhere they
would like to travel
o Each City Council member said their name, their current job (outside of the
Council), and somewhere they would like to travel
• Teens for Tukwila members took turns asking City Council members the following
questions:
o How do you become a City Council member?
o What are you doing to make Tukwila better?
o What are your plans to preserve/restore the diversity in Tukwila?
o What are you doing to inform the people in the community about what is going on?
o How strong (in comparison) is the City of Tukwila compared to other City Councils
in other cities nearby?
o How much does your vote matter in making the final decision?
o Can you tell us about what is going on regarding the Justice Center?
o What would you change if you could change the way City Council operates?
• City Councilmembers took turns answering each of the questions asked to them and then
City Councilmembers asked the Teens for Tukwila members the following questions (not
in this order):
o How is Teens for Tukwila going? What goals does your group have for this year?
o What would you like to see from us?
• There was some additional/general conversation and then Akeela asked if the City Council
members would be willing to participate in the City Hall Chat and the City Council Chat
again this school year.
• The meeting was concluded with each person going around the table and sharing either a
take -away from the meeting and/or one thing about the meeting that he/she liked.
