Tukwila Library Advisory Board
MINUTES
November 6, 2018 5:30 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
1. Call To Order: Chair Scott Kruize called the meeting to order at 5:42 pm
2. Attendance/Roll Call:
Commissioners: Scott Kruize, Marie Parrish, Steve Miller, Gerie Ventura,
KCLS: Angelina Benedetti,
City Staff: Stephanie Gardner -Brown
Guests: Barbara McMichael, SoCo Culture
3. Agenda and Approval Minutes: Steve Miller motioned to approve the agenda and accept the October 2,
2019, Marie Parrish seconded the motion and there was unanimous approval.
4. Citizen Comment: None
5. Unfinished Business:
a. 2019 Workplan and budget review: The Board discussed the proposed workplan. Marie Parrish
made a motion to accept the proposed workplan for 2019, Steve Miller seconded the motion.
6. New Business:
a. Bookmarks and Landmarks: Barbara McMichael, a representative of 4Culture, and Executive
Director with SoCo Culture provided an overview of SoCo Culture and shared information about the
Bookmarks and Landmarks Program. The program strives to connect people to interesting
landmarks within the community. The group asked a few questions to ask about their role and if
they were to take this on. It was clarified the group would need to identify the site. TLAB would be
involved in the book group and could host the program. Marie Parrish felt it may be too short of a
notice for 2019 and it may be necessary to have someone step up to take the reins. After
discussion, the Board decided they would take this project on in 2019. Gerie Ventura said she will
take this on and lead on behalf of the Board. She will work with the Tukwila Historical Society to
try to identify a site.
7. Reports:
a. KCLS: Angelina Benedetti distributed the KCLS preliminary budget and provided an overview of the
budget. She provided information on upcoming KCLS budget hearings being held throughout
November. Ms. Benedetti also distributed November programming for the Tukwila Library.
b. Tukwila Parks and Recreation: Provided a review of the Harvest Carnival and the Spirit of Giving
Campaign. She thanked the Board for supporting both events. The need for Spirit of Giving is high
this year and TLAB's support will go a long way towards helping Tukwila children and families.
8. Other:

9. Adjournment: At 6:48 pm Steve Miller moved to close the meeting. Marie Parrish seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
