Introductions were made and Hin Kieu made a presentation on Partner In Employment (PIE): Focus is working within refugee/immigrant community removing barriers (eviction prevention) and enhancing skills to obtain, retain living wage employment. Training opportunities exist in the trades. PIE assists with case management that removes barriers, creates readiness for successful employment; works closely with employers so trained workers have natural path into employment. Partners include: iron worker trade program starts at $26 an hour. Washington State DOT (4 week training); KC Jobs initiatives, constructions trades, Aerospace Manufacturing (focus on IT). PIE received Communities of Opportunities grant for tuition fees, certificated training, and Best Starts for Kids funding for clients enrolled in program. Starting a Youth Employment Program that includes mentorship, coaching, soft skills (young adults are missing the community connection). PIE services refugees or asylee's who've been in US 5 years of less. 3. Board Chair (Terra Straight) and Vice chair (Sharon Baker) was formalized at December 2018 meeting. 4. Staff continue to meet with funded agencies and all contracts will be in place by 3-31-19. 5. Staff shared some year end Outcomes from funded agencies. 6. Staff discussed year end Information and Referral calls for 2018. Complicated situations along with cost of rent/utilities continue to be biggest, on -going unmet need of residents who are very low/limited income. 7. Rev Jan Bolerjack took HSAB members and staff on a tour of the Pantry. 8. April 11th,2019 from 2-4 pm will be next meeting. D. Traub from Rainier Industries has offered to host and tour board members. Staff will start preparations for 2019 Work Plan.
