ARTS COMMISSION
MINUTES
November 14, 2018 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
1. Call to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:07 pm
2. Attendance:
Commissioners: Cynthia Chesak, Trisha Gilmore, Noe Rodriguez
Absent: Sheila Coppola, Yuriko Rollins, Helen Enguerra, Alex Villella
Guests: Olisa Enrico, Artist in Residence —Tukwila International Boulevard, Beverly Baker
Staff Liaison: Tracy Gallaway, Parks & Recreation Manager
3. Approval of Agenda: Trisha Gilmore moved to accept the agenda. Noe Rodriguez seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
4. Approval of Minutes: Trisha Gilmore moved to accept the minutes. Noe Rodriguez seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
5. Introduction of Guests: Olisa Enrico, Artist in Residence —Tukwila International Boulevard;
Beverly Baker
6. Unfinished Business:
a. Creative Consultancy Update — 4 candidates have been interviewed. Two additional artists
will be interviewed on 11.19.19
b. 2018 Budget Update — Reviewed current budget status
c. 2019 Budget & Workplan Development — Moved to February Retreat
7. New Business — No items were brought up as new business.
8. Sub -Committee Reports
a. Visual Arts:
• TCC Art Wall — The subcommittee met today with the two Artists in Residence.
There will be 6 opportunities to showcase for 2019. One of the ideas is to assign
arts commissioners to fill a slot.
b. Performing Arts:
• Rainier Symphony —The next Rainier Symphony performances for the 2018-2019
season will be December 15 at 7:00pm and December 16 at 3:00pm in the
Performing Arts Center at Foster High School.
• Cynthia Chesak reported that she did have a conversation with Liliana at the
Tukwila School District regarding the lighting needs in the Performing Arts Center.
The Pacific Northwest Theater Association are coming out to do a lighting
evaluation and recommendation on improvements.
c. Outreach: No report.
d. Staff Report:

• The Mayor's office is working on the details for the annual All City Boards &
Commissions Social. Tracy will send out the information when it is made available.
9. Other
a. Olisa Enrico — Has been in contact with Julie Polwarth regarding the Foster High School
Holiday Craft Fair event that is scheduled for Saturday, December 8' from 9am-4pm. They
are looking for more vendors. The cost to participate is $40 and funds raised are for the
Future Business Leaders of America. We will help share information about the event to our
networks.
b. AiRs Report — We are starting an artist roster to be a resource. More information will be
available at the January 2019 meeting.

NEA Grant — Cary Simmons, Trust for Public Land
Schedule a TAC Retreat to establish the 2019 Budget & Work Plan Development
11. Adjournment: Trisha Gilmore motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:01 pm, Noe Rodriguez
seconded the motion, the motion passed unanimously.
