MINUTES
March 27, 2019 5:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
1. CaII to Order: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at 5:58pm.
2. Attendance:
Board: Cynthia Chesak, Chair; Helen Enguerra, Vice Chair Commissioners: Pinky Estell, Sheila Coppola,
Yuriko Rollins
Staff Liaison: Abbey Messmer, Outreach Assistant
Artist in Residence: Sarah Savage
Guests: Eric Tishkoff and Susan Reynolds, Rainier Symphony; Sarah Salvage, Artist in Residence; Dillon
Muhler, Foster High School; Curtis N, Renton Civic Center
Absences: Noe Rodriguez, Trisha Gilmore
3. Approval of Agenda: Sheila moved to accept the agenda. Helen seconded the motion. The motion passed
unanimously.
4. Approval of Minutes: Helen moved to accept the agenda. Sheila seconded the motion. The motion passed

5. Introduction of Guests:

6. Welcome to the Arts Commission: Pinky Estell, VP Uptown Arts and Culture District in Seattle
7. Presentation Rainier Symphony:
• Concerts that were cancelled due to inclement weather in February have been rescheduled to weekend of
April 5-7, 2019.
• Rainier Symphony presented 3 ideas for how Rainier Symphony can collaborate with Foster High School
students and neighboring schools:
o Interested in coordinating an educational concert with school district targeting 5th graders.
Arrangements would need to be made to have students bused to Foster PAC (45 min concerts, 2
concerts that day- Spring 2020).
o Interested in working with Foster HS choir for a concert in 2020. Fine Arts Show during the
concerts is a possibility if school is willing.
o Interested in inviting band students attend rehearsal (not limited to just Foster HS).
8. Unfinished Business:
• AiRs/ Creative Consultancy Update & Next Steps:
o Sarah presented information on upcoming AiRs events
o Arts in Tukwila Facebook page is now active

o The Art Commission has decided that an open call should be made to recruit two artists for the 2
funded mural projects. From the open call, a short list of Tukwila resident applicants will be created
and presented to the Art Commission for input on the final decision. Selection of artists should be
made by first week of June.
o On April 15, materials donated by Dick Blick for print project with Sheila will arrive. More
information TBA.
• Artist Mixer and Workshop (May 17, 5:30pm-8:30pm) Location TBD: Moved to April TAC Meeting.
9. New Business: Renton Civic Center providing discounted tickets to high school students for "12 Angry Men"
production (April 5- April 20).
10. Other: Sheila would like ideas to formulate a way to give back to Dick Blick for donating supplies for AiRs print
project collaboration with Tukwila Elementary Schools.
11. Agenda for Next Meeting:
• Public Safety Plan- Art for City facilities (April 2019)
• Artists Mixer Workshop & possibility of sub -committee
• Camera installation for Art Wall security
• Mural update
12. Adjournment: Pinky motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:49pm. Helen Seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously.
