Call To Order: Chair Steve Miller called the meeting to order at 5:34 pm 2. Attendance/Roll Call: Commissioners: Scott Kruize, Linda McCloud, Steve Miller, Marie Parrish, Verna Seal, Gerie Ventura KCLS Staff: Angelina Benedetti, Regional Manager City Staff: Stephanie Gardner -Brown, Parks and Recreation Management Analyst 3. Agenda and Approval Minutes: Scott Kruize motioned to approve the agenda and accept the minutes of January 8, 2019, Verna Seal seconded the motion and there was unanimous approval. 4. Citizen Comment: None 5. Unfinished Business: a. Parking Concerns Follow Up: Board members discussed continued concerns regarding availability of parking at the Tukwila Library. Many members visit the library, cannot find parking, and then need to leave without visiting. The Board is concerned that SHAG and Riverton Terrace residents are parking at the Sullivan Center and library. TLAB members asked Angie Benedetti questions about posting library parking spaces. Ms. Benedetti provided insights and perspectives with a focus on trying to solve the problem. The Board plans to continue discussions about this topic. 6. New Business: i. Summer Events — Participation: Stephanie Gardner -Brown provided information about summer events and encouraged the Board to consider participating. The Backyard Wildlife Festival is scheduled for May 11. The See You in the Park summer event series will be held in six different park/public spaces. On August 21 the Sullivan Center will be the site of the final event: Sullivan Center Summer Shindig. Music, food, activities, and community resources will be provided. This would be a great event for TLAB to table at and/or for the Friends of Tukwila Library to table as well. 7. Reports: a. KCLS: Angelina Benedetti shared the following report out: ■ Dream Big Campaign: Russell Wilson and Ciera launched the DREAM BIG campaign at Tukwila Library on behalf of the entire KCLS system. The campaign is in partnership with Chase Bank and the Wilson's Why Not You Foundation. The campaign is to encourage high school students/teens to take advantage of resources at libraries to achieve life dreams. The King County Library System provides youth with a wide variety of programs including: STEAM education, homework help and mentoring, coding classes, ESL support, SAT prep and much more. And, as part of DREAM BIG: Anything is Possible, a special spring Teen Voices program will be offered at six King County Library System libraries to motivate, empower and prepare students to be tomorrow's leaders. More info: https://whynotyoufdn.org/dreambig ■ Angie provided details about inclement weather closures and the library's policy for closing libraries. ■ Director Rosenblum will attend the May meeting. b. Tukwila Parks and Recreation: Stephanie Gardner -Brown 2 ■ The Older Adult Recreation and Services Needs Assessment will be presented to City Council in April. ■ On February 26, the Travelodge on Tukwila International Blvd. was demolished to make way for the construction of the new Justice Center. Construction is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2019. ■ Official Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Public Safety Plan and Fire Station 51 On Saturday, March 30th @ 10 am 8. Other: n/a 9.
