WHEREAS, it is inconceivable in our region to imagine a day without water; and
WHEREAS, Tukwila and our fellow Cascade Water Alliance members Bellevue,
Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish Plateau Water and the Skyway Water and Sewer
District are participating in the national Imagine a Day Without Water; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that an investment in our drinking water and wastewater
systems is essential to our health, safety and economic prosperity; and
WHEREAS, Cascade Water Alliance has been studying the need for resiliency,
focusing on long term ability to deliver water following a natural disaster or emergency
event; and
WHEREAS it is imperative that awareness be raised about the crucial need for
investment in water infrastructure, and
WHEREAS, a single nationwide day without water service would put $43.5 billion of
economic activity at risk and eight days without water would put nearly two million jobs in
jeopardy; and
WHEREAS, Cascade Water Alliance ensures safe, reliable, clean drinking water to
more than 350,000 residents and 20,000 businesses each day through 300,000 connections
to its water systems with 1,600 miles of pipes, 60 pump stations, 25 wells, 11 treatment
facilities and 25,000 fire hydrants serving its communities;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Allan Ekberg, Mayor of the City of Tukwila, do hereby proclaim
October 12, 2017 as;
Imagine a Day Without Water
in the City of Tukwila and encourage all community residents to join me in thinking about
the water that comes to our homes and businesses and how it is used and then, imagine a
day without it.
