City of Tukwila Allan Ekberg, Mayor INFORMATIONAL MEMORANDUM TO: Public Safety Committee FROM: Fire Chief Jay Wittwer BY: Jason Konieczka, Emergency Manager CC: Mayor Ekberg DATE: May 28, 2019 SUBJECT: Federal Grant for Retrofit of Fire Station 54 ISSUE The City has the opportunity to apply for a grant to retrofit Fire Station 54. BACKGROUND Staff was made aware of a Pre -Disaster Mitigation Grant (PDM) that is intended to help retrofit existing structures that are deemed critical infrastructure. ANALYSIS This grant could be an option to bring Fire Station 54 up to standards until a new station is constructed. FINANCIAL IMPACT The grant amount is in the $4 million range and includes a 25% match that the City would need to fund if it is successful. RECOMMENDATION The Council Committee is being asked to approve staff's request to apply for Pre -Disaster Mitigation Grant funding to retrofit Fire Station 54. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, is designed to assist States, U.G. Project sub -applications submitted for consideration for PDMfunding must beconsistent with the goals and objectives identified inthe current, FEMArapprowad State orTribal (Standard or Enhanced) hazard mitigation plan along with the local or tribal hazard mitigation plan for the jurisdiction in which the activity is located. Planning sub -applications submitted for consideration for PDM funding must result ina mitigation plan adopted bvthe jVhSdicti0n(s) and approved bvFEMA.
