• Commission revisited school zone cameras at Foster High School and Showalter Middle
School. Councilmember Hougardy requested a specific recommendation as a follow up
from the first presentation on the school zone cameras at the February 7, 2019 ESJC
meeting. Tukwila Police Chief Bruce Linton and Trish Kinlow, Tukwila Municipal Court
Administrator, both were present to answer any additional questions. Chief Bruce Linton
discussed speed data in the school zone areas and the potential threat to students due to
excessive speed. Trish Kinlow spoke to the mitigations made available in Court for
people who receive tickets that cannot pay them, which includes significant reduction in
fines and community service.
• The Commission recommended robust outreach and engagement with families at Foster
High School and Showalter Middle School. Chair, Mikkell Roeland, emphasized that she
wanted to support Nichelle Paige in action -based outreach for families that attend Foster
and Showalter. Examples: ice-cream socials planned for September 2019, PTA
presentations and other events with parents in the community.
