I was able to find some of the permits. Senior Planner Brandon Miles is reviewing the permit history, so I will make sure I check with him today to see what the status is on this. one. Directional signs are allowed under section 19.12.030.10 of the new sign code: 19.12.030: "The following shall not require issuance of permits by the City... 10. Up to four directional signs per premises where there is a need to direct vehicular traffic. Freestanding signs may be up to three feet in height and two square feet per face or a total of four square feet for all faces. Flush -mounted building signs may be up to three square feet in size. I hope that answers your question. I am writing to give you an update on the status of your sign permits. I haven't been able to verify that we received your business license yet, but I should hear back about that by the end of the day today. The changes you propose to the awning do not affect the sign size or location, so they do not affect your sign permit. However, since the change to the awning is a structural change, it has to be approved by a building inspector. Regarding the freestanding sign, I was under the impression that this sign had been permitted under the old sign code, which would qualify it for sign face changes under the 10 year grace period. Unfortunately, I have had some difficulty tracking down any permits for this sign in our permitting system, so I will have to retrieve some physical files from the archive. They should be delivered to my desk by next week. Alternatively, you may want to ask the building manager if he or she knows the permit numbers under which the existing sign panels (for Half -Price Books, Tulip's Nails, and Bai Tong Thai) were installed — I believe these were all installed under the old sign code. Sorry for the delays. We should have everything sorted out by next week. I will be away from my desk until next Wednesday afternoon. I will let you know then if I need any more information. I will need your help resolving a couple of things with the sign permits for Value Village. First, the application form for the freestanding (pole) sign reface was not filled out completely. The new forms are not as clear as they could be, and I apologize for that. I will need you to fill out the information on the bottom of page 1 (under "General Information about Property") as well as Table 4 in Section 3 (on page 5 of the form). I have attached a copy of the form for you to use, or you can just give me the information via e-mail. I realize you might not have some of this information (e.g. date of last sign permit), but please fill it out to the best of your ability. Second, from the plans you sent I was unable to determine the Exposed Building Face (EBF) area for the large wall sign on the west side of the building. You did provide this information on your application, but I need to be able to verify it on your plans. I also have to be able to verify the area of the sign from your plans. Using a simple rectangular perimeter, I calculated the area of the sign to be over 237 sq ft. You do not have to use a simple rectangle to calculate area for a channel letter sign, but please use 90 degree angles for your area perimeter and include the perimeter on your plans, so that I can verify your calculations. For the awning side sign, the code stipulates that these types of signs are only allowed over public entrances. I couldn't tell for sure whether the entrance on the south side is a public entrance, so I just need you to verify that for me. Finally, I need your Tukwila Business Licence number. If you do not have a Tukwila Business Licence, you will need to apply for one. The city permits refaces and copy changes to existing freestanding signs under several different scenarios: L_ A freCganding sign that confornisio_the current sign code is permitted refaces and cgpy change, with a permit._ (2. A freestanding sign that is not considered a freeway interchange sign, which was legally installed under the previous sign code but does not meet the current Sign Code, is permitted to have refaces and copy changes for up to TEN years from the effective date of the City's Sign Code (8/24/10). A permit is required for any reface or copy change. Please note, modifying the sign height, increasing the sign area, or relocating the sign is not permitted without bringing the sign into full conformance with the City's Sign Code. At the end of the ten year period the sign may remain as -is indefinitely, however additional refaces nr copy changes will require that the sign be brought into conformance with �k a Sign Code. f 3. Freestanding signs that did not comply with the City's previous sign code, for example those that were installed while an area was in King County, are not permitted to have any changes to the face or structure of the sign without bringing the sign into conformance with the Sign Code. Staff can help you research previous permit history to determine if your existing freestanding sign was installed under the provisions of the City's previous Sign Code. You will note that under Section I of this sign permit application additional signs are allowed for premises with over 800 feet of linear street frontage or for corner properties. Even if your property qualifies for this additional signage under Section 1 you will not be able to install it until any existing non -conforming sign(s) are removed (TMC 19.36.070). The applicant or installer is required to schedule the final Sign inspection through the City's Inspection line at (206)431-2451. The 4-digit inspection code needed for scheduling the final Sign inspection is 1510. The applicant or installer does not need to be present for the final Sign inspection. It is the responsibility of the installer to obtain the electrical permit and inspections from the City of Tukwila Permit Center at (206) 431-3670. The electrical inspector will need access to complete the Electrical portion of the inspection. GENERAL The issuance of some signage within the City may require a permit from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). It is the applicant's responsibility to obtain all required permits from the appropriate government agency, For information on permits that may be required from WSDOT call (360) 705-7296. The issuance of a sign permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of this code or of any other ordinance of the City. Permits presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of this code or other ordinances of the City shall not be valid.
