I did a little checking for you. Under our sign code adopted in August of 2010, logos can be considered signage. However, in this case, we will treat these dragon logos the same as the ones you put in at Riverside Casino. They will be treated as decorative and will be exempt from the requirement to obtain a sign permit. I will put a copy of this e-mail in the file as well, in case there is any question in the future. Your application is still incomplete at the moment, since I am still waiting for a revised building elevation. I will also need to see the revised building permit before I can approve your sign permit. When we did the rebranding at the Riverside Casino, the dragon logos were considered exempt, see attached design. With the Macau permit, I showed them primarily as a notification to the city that they would be installed, but not necessarily because a permit was required. Are logo's now considered to be signs and if so, what was the effective date of the change that would require them to be counted as such? I'm working on the building permit issue and will submit that next week. In order to make the application complete, you must provide the following within 90 days: 1 A scaled elevation of the building wall wnere the sign will be located indicating the locution and dimensions of the exposed building face used to calculate maximum sign area. The elevation must show the entire South wall so that I can verify the dimensions. If we have not received the requested information within 90 days, your application will be cancelled. You may be granted an extension of up to 120 additional days if we receive a written request for extension. Please note the following additional issues with your application that must be addressed before your permit will be approved: - The pagoda -shaped false -facade structure will not be permitted as a sign under the sign code, as it extends above the top of the roof eave. It may be permitted as an architectural/structural component of the building. However, it must be shown on a building permit. The tenant improvement building permit must be revised to show the structure or a new building permit must be submitted. - The sign code allows one sign per exterior public entrance. Three signs will not be approved for the South wall unless this wall contains three public entrances. The dragon logos may be approved as components or elements of a single sign, but you must calculate sign area by using one continuous perimeter around all sign elements.
