JMW 05-14-2012 Jon Morrison Winters From: Jon Morrison Winters Sent: Thursday, April 26, 2012 1:37 PM To: tedm@rainier.com Subject: Sign Permit Application #S12-018 Dear Sign Permit Applicant, The City of Tukwila Department of Community Development has completed our review of your sign permit application. This will serve as an official notice of decision. Your application has been approved and is available for you to pick up at our office, 6300 Southcenter Blvd, Ste 100. If your sign is illuminated, you may be required to obtain an electrical permit when you pick up your sign permit. The permit is valid for 180 days from the date of issuance. You are required to request a final inspection prior to the permit expiration date or the permit will expire. To request an inspection, please call our inspection line at 206-431- 2451. You may be granted one extension of not more than 30 days if you submit a request for extension prior to permit expiration. Additional Information: Loading bays are typically not considered exterior public entrances under the sign code. The will -call door was allowed as an exterior public entrance under the understanding that it will have a ramp to allow ingress/egress, it will remain unlocked during normal business hours, and entry will not be restricted as with a key or code. Since there will be two signs on this wall, I divided the wall in half for purposes of calculating maximum allowable signage. Both signs are smaller than the allowable maximum and are approved. If you prefer to have this permit mailed to you, or if you have any additional questions, please call 206-431-2164 and reference the permit number listed above. Sincerely, Jon Morrison Winters Department of Community Development City of Tukwila ionathon.winters(c@tukwilawa.gov 206-431-2164 My office hours for the Spring quarter are 8:00 AM — 4:00 PM Monday and 12:30 PM — 4:30 PM Thursday. Thank you for your patience. i Jon Morrison Winters From: Jon Morrison Winters Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2012 2:25 PM To: tedm@rainier.com Subject: Sign Permit Application #S12-018 for Tri Vantage Ted, This will serve as an official notice of completeness for your permit application. Your permit application is currently under review. You should receive written notice of the status of your application in approximately 3-5 business days. Although we review sign permits as quickly as possible (often within one week), you should allow for plenty of time in your project schedule for permit review. If we are unable to issue your permit within 120 days, you will receive a written statement of explanation as to why this time limit has not been met and an estimated date for issuance of a notice of final decision. Any modification to project plans occurring before issuance of the permit shall be deemed a new application for the purpose of the 120-day permit clock when such modification results in a substantial change in the project's review requirements, as determined by the Department. Additional Information: Thank you for submitting the fabric samples and for confirming that the will call door is an exterior public entrance. If you have any questions about the permitting process or to check the status of your application, please call 206-431- 2164 and reference the permit number listed above. Sincerely, Jon Morrison Winters Department of Community Development City of Tukwila jonathon.winters@tukwilawa.gov 206-431-2164 My office hours for the Spring quarter are 8:00 AM — 4:00 PM Monday and 12:30 PM — 4:30 PM Thursday. Thank you for your patience. i Jon Morrison Winters From: Jon Morrison Winters Sent: Monday, April 16, 2012 3:20 PM To: 'Ted Marier' Subject: RE: Sign Permit Application #S12-018 for Tri Vantage Ted, Thank you for your quick reply. Loading bays would usually be considered service entrances, which are not considered exterior public entrances for sign code purposes. However, I will approve the will call door as a public entrance as long as it is open to the public during regular business hours and access is not restricted through keyed or coded entry. I don't think I got the fabric sample card, could you please resend that? Our sign code says that signs are only allowed on awnings made of canvas or nylon, so I'll have to check to see if an acrylic fabric is similar enough for me to approve it. I may need to have an actual sample of the fabric, but I will let you know about that. You can expect to hear back from me about this on Thursday or next Monday at the latest. -Jon From: Ted Marier fmailto:tedm@rainier.comj Sent: Monday, April 16, 2012 2:29 PM To: Jon Morrison Winters Subject: RE: Sign Permit Application #S12-018 for Tri Vantage Jon, 1) The tenant has (1) main door and (4) loading dock doors. The loading dock bay below the Tri Vantage sign will be their will call door, it has a ramp on it. Also our customer changed to only have their logo on the awning, attached is a PDF of the graphic layout for the graphics. 2) Attached is a PDF of the Firesist fabric sample card, the fabric is an acrylic with a fire retardant polymer on it. When we submitted for the permit they told us the awnings would not need a building permit per 105.2 section 12 in the 2009 IBC. If you need anything else for the permit please tell me and I will get it for you. This will serve as an official notice of incompleteness. In order to make the application complete, you must provide the following within 90 days: 1 1. Please confirm the number of exterior public entrances to the tenant space on the wall where the signs are proposed 2. Please confirm that the awning will be constructed of canvas or nylon fabric If we have not received the requested information within 90 days, your application will be cancelled. You may be granted an extension of up to 120 additional days if we receive a written request for extension. Additional Information: The sign code allows awning face signs to substitute for other wall signs, but each sign requires an exterior public entrance. If there is only one public entrance to the tenant space where the signs are proposed, you would not be allowed both the awning face sign and the flush -mounted wall sign. In addition to your sign permit, you may be required to obtain a building permit for the awnings if you have not already done so. Please call our building department at 206-431-3670 for more information on building permit requirements.
