Subject: Permit Application #S12-037 for McDonald's
Dear Mr. Smith,
I have reviewed your application for a sign permit for four flush -mounted wall signs for the McDonald's restaurant at
16501 Southcenter Parkway. I determined that the proposed signs will meet code. I am ready to approve the permits.
However, these permits will not be issued until a contractor is selected and I confirm that the contractor has a valid
Washington State Contractor's license and a Tukwila Business License.
Please contact me with the contractor information at least three days prior to picking up your permits at the permit
counter. That will give me enough time put the contractor information in the permit file and inform our permitting staff
that the permit is ready to be issued.
This e-mail confirms that your permits do meet code and will be approved once I have received the contractor
information from you. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Sincerely,
Jon Morrison Winters

LED Service Instructions
LED Precautions:
1. LED's can not be connected directly to voltage higher than 30 volts or the LED's will be destroyed. A low
voltage (24 or 30 volts) power supply must be used and is supplied with each sign.
2. Avoid rough handling or dropping of the LED strings. Store with plastic wrap protecting the LED strings.
3. Avoid touching the actual LEDS located on the small printed circuit boards. Handle using the edges of the
boards.
4. The LED boards have mounting tape on the back and need to be mounted to a clean and dry surface.
Prior to adhering LED's, clean the surface with a mixture of 50/50 isopropyl alcohol.
LED Trouble Shooting:
1. If none of the LED's light then it is unlikely that the LED's are bad unless the product was connected to a
supply voltage higher than 30 volts without the use of a power supply. Voltage higher than 30 volts will
destroy the LED's and they will all need to be replaced. LED's will last about 5 years under normal
conditions using the correct low voltage power supply and in dry environment. If the problem is not the
LED's then it could be a faulty switch, power supply, or wire connections and they all need to be
inspected. Check with a meter that 120 volts is coming into the sign, going out of the switch, and coming
into the power supply. Check with a meter that 30 volts is come out of the power supply. It is helpful to
exchange questionable parts with known good parts to rule out the cause of the failure. Note: when
checking the wire connections, gently pull on each wire to be sure that it is secure and making good
contact.
2. If one complete string of LED's, 5 to 7 in a string, does not light then check the wire connections going to
that string. 30 volts should be coming into the string. If the wires and wire nut connections are good then
the driver is malfunctioning and the complete string is bad and will need to be replaced.
3. If one LED does not light then it is a bad LED and the one LED will need to be replaced.
LED Replacement Instructions:
CAUTION: Be sure to disconnect the power going to the sign before doing any service work on
the sign.
1. Remove the faulty LED board or LED string by carefully prying off the LED board with a flat blade screw
driver. Mark the location of each LED so the replacement will be in the same exact location. Cut the
wires between the LEDS leaving the maximum wire lengths on the good LED.
2. Clean the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol where the replacement LED's will be placed.
3. Determine the location of the replacement LED's and cut the wires to proper length and connect the new
LED's using small wire nut connectors. Use the same color code on the wires or the same orientation of
the LED boards when replacing them. Test light the sign. If the replacement LED's do not Tight, then
switch the wires and retest. If the new LED's do light, then continue.
4. When all LEDS work, mount the LED boards by removing the red tape liners from the tape on the LED
boards, and press onto the original locations.
5. Move the wires and connectors away from the LED's to eliminate shadows on the face. Secure the wires
with tape and silicone or adhesive to permanently hold the wires.
