CJ 3-28-13 Jon Morrison Winters Fiom: Jon Morrison Winters Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 1:44 PM To: 'Connie Mayer' Subject: RE: Sign Permit Application #512-058, BevMo Wall Signs Hi Connie. Thanks for checking. In order to determine your size allowance for wall signs, you need to use Table 2 in Section 19.20.050 of the Sign Code (the table is also on the sign permit application form) and apply the correct formula. Make sure you are applying the formula carefully to avoid a math error. In this case, for the main sign (West facing), the EBF is 1978 sq ft. The correct formula is (EBF-1500)X.03+65 sq ft. The math is below: 1978-1500=478 478X.03=14.34 14.34+65=79.34 sq ft. For the other sign (South facing), the wall does not qualify for a "regular" wall sign, since there is no exterior public entrance. However, due to the architectural elements of the building, the wall qualifies for an incentive sign at 50% of the "regular" sign allowance. The EBF for this wall is 1495 sq ft. The correct formula is (EBF-500)X.04+25 sq ft. 1495-500= 995 995X.04=39.8 39.8+25=64.8 50% of 64.8 is 32.4 sq ft. I didn't review the permits for Reclinerland, so I can't speak to why the existing signage would be larger. Regardless, there's no like -for -like provision in the sign code to preserve the sign size of a wall sign that doesn't meet code. If anything is unclear or if you have any additional questions, you're welcome to call me today or tomorrow. After tomorrow, I believe these permits will be handled by Senior Planner Brandon Miles, who can be reached at signpermits@tukwilawa.gov Sincerely, Jon Morrison Winters Department of Community Development City of Tukwila jonathon.winters@tukwilawa.gov 206-431-2164 From: Connie Mayer [mailto:connie.mayer@wavecable.com] Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 1:21 PM To: Jon Morrison Winters Subject: Re: Sign Permit Application #512-058, BevMo Wall Signs 1 Good Afternoon Jon, I received your letter & had forwarded it to Joy Turnipseed as she is the project manager for Ad Art Sign Co. She said she he spoke with you & went by the guide lines in the code when designing the sign. She wants to know why the signs are being considered to large as the signs that are there are the same size. She said they are changing like for like. Could you let me know why they have to downsize when they are going by the chart in the code for building signs as what is permittable & also changing like for like. Thanks, Connie Mayer Permit Technician Hanson Sign Co. Inc 6338 NW Warehouse Way PO Box 928 Silverdale WA 98383 P 360-613-9550 F 360-613-9515 Please visit our website at www.hansonsigns.com Jon Morrison Winters wrote: Dear Sign Permit Applicant, The City of Tukwila Department of Community Development has received your application for a sign permit. This will serve as an official notice of completeness for your permit application. Your permit application is currently under review. You should receive written notice of the status of your application in approximately 3-5 business days. Although we review sign permits as quickly as possible (often within one week), you should allow for plenty of time in your project schedule for permit review. If we are unable to issue your permit within 120 days, you will receive a written statement of explanation as to why this time limit has not been met and an estimated date for issuance of a notice of final decision. Any modification to project plans occurring before issuance of the permit shall be deemed a new application for the purpose of the 120-day permit clock when such modification results in a substantial change in the project's review requirements, as determined by the Department. Additional Information: As currently proposed, the signs are too large to meet code. The maximum allowable size for sign 1 (incentive sign on South wall face) is 32.4 sq ft. The maximum allowable size for sign 2 (main wall sign on West wall face) is 79.34 sq ft. You may send plan revisions via e-mail or postal mail. Your proposed reface of the freestanding/monument sign will be reviewed separately under permit #512-057. If you have any questions about the permitting process or to check the status of your application, please call 206-431- 2164 and reference the permit number listed above. 2 Sincerely, Jon Morrison Winters Department of Community Development City of Tukwila jonathon.winters@tukwilawa.gov 206-431-2164 Email scanned by PC Tools - No viruses or spyware found.
