This permit shall become null and void if the work is not commenced within 180 days for the date of issuance, or if
the work is suspended or abandoned for a period of 180 days from the last inspection.
PERMIT CONDITIONS:
1: The attached set of mechanical plans have been reviewed by The Tukwila Fire Marshal's Office and are
acceptable with the following concerns:
2: H.V.A.C. units rated at greater than 2,000 cfm require auto -shutdown devices. These devices shall be
separately zoned in the alarm panel and local U.L. central station supervision is required. (City Ordinance
#2437)
3: H.V.A.C. systems supplying air in excess of 2,000 cubic feet per minute to enclosed spaces within buildings
shall be equipped with an automatic shutoff. Automatic shutoff shall be accomplished by interrupting the
power source of the air -moving equipment upon detection of smoke in the main return -air duct served by
such equipment. Smoke detectors shall be labeled by an approved agency for air -duct installation and shall
be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's installation instructions. (IMC 606.1, 606.2.1)
4: Remote indicator lights are required on all above ceiling smoke detectors. (City Ordinance #2437)
5: Duct smoke detectors shall be capable of being reset from a single point near the alarm panel. (City
Ordinance #2437)
6: Duct detectors shall send a supervisory signal only upon activation. (City Ordinance #2437)
7: All new fire alarm systems or modifications to existing systems shall have the written approval of The
Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau. No work shall commence until a fire department permit has been
obtained. (City Ordinance #2437) (IFC 901.2)
8: An electrical permit from the City of Tukwila Building Department Permit Center (206-431-3670) is required
for this project.
9: Contact The Tukwila Fire Prevention Bureau to witness all required inspections and tests. (City Ordinances
#2436 and #2437)
10: Any overlooked hazardous condition and/or violation of the adopted Fire or Building Codes does not imply
approval of such condition or violation.
11: These plans were reviewed by Inspector 511. If you have any questions, please call Tukwila Fire Prevention
Bureau at (206)575-4407.
12: Work shall be installed in accordance with the approved construction documents, and any changes made
during construction that are not in accordance with the approved construction documents shall be
resubmitted for approval.
13: All permits, inspection record card and approved construction documents shall be kept at the site of work
and shall be open to inspection by the Building Inspector until final inspection approval is granted.
14: Readily accessible access to roof mounted equipment is required.
15: All construction shall be done in conformance with the Washington State Building Code and the
Washington State Energy Code.
16: Remove all demolition rubble and loose miscellaneous material from lot or parcel of ground, properly cap
the sanitary sewer connections, and properly fill or otherwise protect all basements, cellars, septic tanks,
wells, and other excavations. Final inspection approval will be determined by the building inspector based
on satisfactory completion of this requirement.
17: All plumbing and gas piping work shall be inspected and approved under a separate permit issued by the
City of Tukwila Building Department (206-431-3670).
18: All electrical work shall be inspected and approved under a separate permit issued by the City of Tukwila
Permit Center.
19: VALIDITY OF PERMIT: The issuance or granting of a permit shall not be construed to be a permit for, or an
approval of, any violation of any of the provisions of the building code or of any other ordinances of the City
of Tukwila. Permits presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of the code or other
ordinances of the City of Tukwila shall not be valid. The issuance of a permit based on construction
documents and other data shall not prevent the Building Official from requiring the correction of errors in
the construction documents and other data.

In reviewing our current records, the above noted permit has not received a final inspection by the City of Tukwila Building
Division. Per the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and/or the National Electric
Code, every permit issued by the Building Division under the provisions of these codes shall expire by limitation and become null
and void if the building or work authorized by such permit has not begun within 180 days from the issuance date of such permit, or if
the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work has begun for a period of 180
days. Your permit will expire on 4/13/2016.
Based on the above, you are hereby advised to:
1) Ca11 the City of Tukwila Inspection Request Line at 206-438-9350 to schedule for the next or final inspection. Each
inspection creates a new 180 day period, provided the inspection shows progress.

2) Submit a written request for permit extension to the Permit Center at least seven(7) days before it is due to expire.
Address your extension request to the Building Official and state your reason(s) for the need to extend your permit.
The Building Code does allow the Building Official to approve one extension of up to 180 days. If it is determined that your
extension request is granted, you will be notified by mail.
In the event you do not call for an inspection and/or receive an extension prior to 4/13/2016, your permit will become null and void
and any further work on the project will require a new permit and associated fees.

Saver Stores Seattle Roof Assessment
SUBJECT: Mechanical Equipment Replacement Study for Tukwila Value Village Store
AHBL Visited the Value Village Store in Tukwila Washington in order to evaluate whether the roof structure of the
store can support new roof -top mechanical units that are expected to be slightly heavier that the existing units.
Based on our site visits to the store, information we received from your office, and our calculations, we anticipate
that the proposed new mechanical units can be installed on the existing roof structure.
AHBL visited the store to observe the relationship of the existing mechanical units to the store's roof structure.
The Tukwila store's roof structure consists of steel roof deck on parallel chord steel K-or LH trusses supported by
steel beams. The beams are supported by steel tube columns. It was observed that existing mechanical units are
placed very near columns supporting the roof structure. In this case, a large portion of the mechanical unit weight
is borne directly by the column and a lesser portion is borne directly by roof trusses. Our analysis approach was
to compare the effects on the roof framing members of the new unit Toads against those effects of the existing
units. Where the effects of new equipment Loading did not exceed those of the existing unit by 5%, it was judged
that the new unit could be installed on the roof structure supporting the existing mechanical unit. In this approach,
the actual load capacity of the supporting framing was not calculated.
Our analysis assumed that new mechanical units are to be placed at the same location as the existing units they
replace. In no case should our investigation be construed as a general condition study or structural analysis the
roof or any other system comprising the store. AHBL was not able to observe the condition of roof framing or
other supporting elements in the immediate vicinity of mechanical units or under the units due to interference or
lack of access.

This letter is to inform you of corrections that must be addressed before your development permit can be approved. All
correction requests from each department must be addressed at the same time and reflected on your drawings. I have
enclosed comments from the following departments:

comments.
• (GENERAL NOTE)
PLAN SUBMITTALS: (Min. size 11x17 to maximum size of 24x36; all sheets shall be the same size. New revised
plan sheets shall be the same size sheets as those previously submitted.)
(If applicable) All Structural Drawings and structural calculations sheets to be stamped (original signed wet stamp,
not copied) by Washington State licensed architect, structural engineer or civil engineer.
(BUILDING REVIEW NOTES)
1. The permit is to replace rooftop HVAC units like for like. However there is no information on the existing units
to compare the existing unit's weight vs new units' weight. Also there are additional curb retrofits that add to the
weight. Provide specifications for the existing roof units to compare weight with the new units combined weight of
curb transitions and any other additional equipment. If the weight is more for the new units, an engineer's analysis
shall be required to verify the structural integrity of the roof system.
2. Provide details for method of attachment to roof curb to resist forces of seismic and wind loads. Also a note on
Page 4 of the documents indicates the curb adapter is not wind or seismic rated. Provide clarification and details for
adapters secured to also resist loads as indicated above.
Please address the comments above in an itemized format with applicable revised plans, specifications, and/or other
documentation. The City requires that two (2) sets of revised plan pages, specifications and/or other documentation be
resubmitted with the appropriate revision block.
In order to better expedite your resubmittal, a 'Revision Submittal Sheet' must accompany every resubmittal. I have
enclosed one for your convenience. Corrections/revisions must be made in person and will not be accepted through the mail
or by a messenger service.
