We have been retained to provide structural services associated with Ross' plan to replace certain roof top mounted HVAC unit. This report provides an analysis of the vertical load effect of the replacement units on the roof. The lateral hold-down connections are being provided by the contractor. We have received data regarding both the existing and new units and have included it in this report, along with data regarding adaptor curbs. The data is summarized in the table below. We have conducted a structural analysis (please see calculations attached), and have concluded that the structure is adequate to support the proposed loads without reinforcement. Please permit this structure without any further structural analysis required. If additional analysis is required, please advise. I'd be happy to answer any questions you have! RTU NO. Use the Trane calculation form or any other standard accepted method. Step 2 — Size the equipment using Table 44-3, to match the cooling loads at design conditions. Example: The following are the building cooling requirements: a. Electrical Characteristics: 460/60/3 b. Summer Design Conditions: Entering Evaporator Coil: 80 F DB/67 F WB Outdoor Ambient: 95 F c. Total Cooling Load: 110 MBh d. Sensible Cooling Load: 70 MBh e. Airflow Quantity: 4,000 Cfm External Static Pressure: 0.5 in. wg Table 44-3 shows a SACC C10 has a gross cooling capacity of 131 MBh and 101 MBh sensible capacity (0.77 x 131) at 95 F DB ambient with 4,000 cfm of 80 F DB and 67 F WB air entering the evaporator. To find net cooling capacities, fan motor heat must be sub- tracted. Determine total unit static pressure: External Static 0 5 in. Standard Filter (Table 48-1) 0 02 in. Electric Heat (Table 48-1) 0 05 in. Economizer (Table 48-1) 0 06 in. Unit Total Static Pressure 0 63 in. With 4,000 cfm and 0.63 inches sp, enter Table 47-1 which shows 2.99 bhp at 926 rpm required. Chart 47-1 shows 2.99 bhp results in 8.9 MBh fan heat. Net capacities are 122.1 MBh total (131 MBh gross — 8.9 MBh fan heat) and 92.1 MBh sensible (101 MBh — 8.9 MBh fan heat). HEATING CAPACITY Step 1 — Calculate the building heating load using the Trane calculation form or other standard accepted method. Step2 — Size the system heating capacity to match the calcul- ated building heating load. Following are building heating requirements: a. Total heating load of 150 MBh b. 4,000 cfm (select to match the cooling cfm required) c. 80 F DB entering air condition 1. Electric Heat: For the SACC C10-ton unit selected, operating on 460-volts, there is a 19.5 kw (66.6 MBh) minimum and 60 kw (204.8 MBh) maximum heating capacity available at nominal cfm (Table 46-1). Use the Trane calculation form or any other standard accepted method. Step 2 — Size the equipment using Table 66-1 and 66-2, to match the cooling loads at design conditions. Example: The following are the building cooling requirements: a. Electrical characteristics: 208-230/60/1 b. Summer Design Conditions: Entering Evaporator Coil: 80 F DB/67 F WB Outdoor Ambient: 95 F c. Total Cooling Load: 36 MBh d. Sensible Cooling Load: 27 MBh e. Airflow Quality: 1320 Cfm Table 68-2 shows a SFHC 302 has a net cooling capacity of 37 MBh with 79 percent sensible capacity at 95 F DB ambient with 1200 cfm of 80 F DB and 67 F WB air entering the evaporator. Since 1320 cfm is 10 percent from the nominal 1200 cfm, a total cooling correction factor from Table 63-5 of 1.015 must be multiplied times total capacity. Also a sensible cooling correc- tion factor of 1.030 must be multiplied times sensible heat capacity. The cfm range in Table 63-5 must not be exceeded for proper unit operation. After cooling correction factors have been applied, the 3-ton unit has a cooling capacity of 38 MBh and 30 MBh sensible. Both valves will satisfy building cooling load requirements. HEAT CAPACITY (GAS) L = Low Heat H = High Heat UNIT VOLTAGE 2 = 208-230/60/1 6 = 208-230/60/3 4 = 460/60/3 COOLING CAPACITY 20 = 2 Ton 25 = 21/2 Ton 30 = 3 Ton 35 = 31/2 Ton 40 = 4 Ton 50 = 5 Ton HEATING CAPACITY Step 1 — Calculate the building heating load using the Trane calculation form or other standard accepted method. Step 2 — Size the system heating capacity to match the calcul- ated building heating load. Following are building heating requirements: a. Total' heating load of 54 MBh b. 1320 cfm (selected to match the cooling Cfm required) c. 80 F DB entering air condition 1. Gas Heating For the SFHC 3 ton unit selected, there are two output capacities available, 57 MBh and 94 MBh shown in Table 68-5 the 57 MBh best matches the building heating re- quirements indicating a SFHC 30 with L heat capacity should be selected. To find leaving air temperature, multiply the temperature correction factor .91 for 4400 cfm from Table 69-1 for 1320 cfm times the temperature rise 53 F given in Table 68-5. Add the product of this multiplication (48 F) to the heat exchanger entering air temperature 80 F the sum, 128 F, is the leaving air temperature. Electric Heating For the SAHB 3 ton unit selected, operating on 240 volts, there is 5.8 Kw (19.8 MBh) minimum and 22.4 Kw (76.5 MBh) maximum heating capacity available at nominal cfm. At 1320 cfm, 17.3 Kw (59.0 MBh) best matches the build- ing heating requirements. Page 60 FIGURED 31/32 DM ENSION FRONT VIEW i% I.D. SNAP BUSHING FOR THERMOSTAT WIRES ! '4-11V16 D 3i N.P.S.
