MINUTES
October 23, 2019 6:00 p.m. Tukwila Community Center/Executive Conference Room
1. Call to Order, Roll Call & Introduction of Guests: Chair Cynthia Chesak called the meeting to order at
6:01pm.
Attendance:
Commission Members Present: Cynthia Chesak, Pinky Estell, Sheila Coppola, Trisha Gilmore, Helen
Enguerra, Jaleh Sadravi
Commission Members Absent: Dylan Mahler
Staff: Tracy Gallaway, TAC Liaison
Guests: None
2. Approval of Agenda: Helen Enguerra moved to accept the agenda. Pinky Estell seconded the motion. The
motion passed unanimously.
3. Approval of Minutes: Pinky Estell moved to accept the minutes for 8.28.19 Trisha Gilmore seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
4. Unfinished Business:
a. PAC Assessment & Next Steps — Pinky Estell has prepared a list of stakeholders and will be completing
the assessment this fall.
b. Rotating Art Display Wall —The next artist on display will be Lily Hotchkiss, for November and December.
c. Fall Arts Activities/National Arts & Humanities Month — several activities have been planned for this fall.
Some of the planned Silver Kite Arts workshops have been canceled due to lack of interest.
d. Updates for Artist in Residence & Southcenter District Art Project (LTAC Funded)
i. Artist in Residence Program
1. AiR River Artist Sarah Kavage: Sarah has been away at another project site but will be returning
in early November.
2. AiR TIB Artist Olisa Enrico -Johnson has two active projects: TIB Mural Project and Stories of
Arrival (recording project). The mural project will be continuing through the month of October
and the Stories of Arrival recording project will wrap up by the end of the year.
3. Both artists, Olisa Enrico -Johnson and Sarah Kavage, will be wrapping up their residencies with
the City of Tukwila in the coming months. The artists will be preparing a final report that will be
ready for review at the November Arts Commission retreat.
ii. Southcenter District Art Project — Artist Beth Gahan is under contract and has begun the planning
work for the Southcenter District art projects.

5. New Business:
a. 2020 Retreat Planning — Arts Commissioners brainstormed a list of things that they would like to talk
about at the upcoming retreat. This list included: review of Artist in Resident recommendations,
Rotating Art Display program (process, stipends/reception), partnerships with organizations and
businesses, arts and culture programming, how to support artists in the community (workshops, paid
opportunities, mini -grants, etc.) and support of the Southcenter District Art Project.
6. Commission/Staff Report Outs:
Tracy Gallaway, Staff Liaison —The Mayor is recommending that Shawn Belyea be appointed to the Tukwila
Arts Commission. Shawn has spent 30 years as a professional theater artist, arts producer, and theater arts
educator in Seattle. He currently works for Cornish College of the Arts as a Resident Producer in the Theater
Department.

9. Adjournment: Sheila Coppola motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:27pm. Helen Enguerra seconded the
motion. The motion passed unanimously.
