Mayor Van Dusen led the Pledge of Allegiance and called the Regular Meeting of the Tukwila City Council to order. MABEL J. HARRIS, DORIS E. PHELPS, JOE H. DUFFIE, EDGAR D. BAUCH, WENDY A. MORGAN. WOO, Deputy City Attorney; MAXINE ANDERSON, City Clerk; BRAD COLLINS, Planning Director; PAT LOWERY, Police Chief; DON WILLIAMS, Recreation Director. Mayor Van Dusen read a proclamation recognizing the Forgotten Child. Puget Sound radio and TV personalities are hosting a fund raiser on November 21, 1982, to benefit the area children during the Christmas Season. a. Approval of Minutes: November 1, 1982 b. MOTION CARRIED. This Public Hearing is to allow audience comments on the pro- posed annexation of 3.4 acres contiguous to the City boundary and commonly known as Foster Park. Mayor Van Dusen opened the Public Hearing. After calling for comments three times and receiving none, he declared the Public Hearing closed at 7:25 p.m. The proposed annexation of 4.11 acres is contiguous to the City boundary. It is the site of the Tukwila- Southgate Com- munity Center. Mayor Van Dusen declared the Public Hearing open and asked for comments from the audience. Mrs. Joanne Poirier, 13405 42nd Ave. South, requested that the City Council accept the proposed annexation. She presented Council with a proposal to annex a block of four properties lying south of the Southgate site. A. Segale to place Christmas decora- tions in City Hall PROGRAM PROCLAMATION: To honor our distinguished guests from Ikawa, Japan Message from Mayor Yuchida Address by Mayor Van Dusen Council Members Presentation Presentation by South Central School Board Student Speakers Mario A. Segale, Segale Business Park, has offered, for the second year, to decorate City Hall for the Holiday Season. MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY PHELPS, THAT THE PROPOSED RESO- LUTION BE READ. Deputy City Attorney Woo read, in its entirety, a resolution of the City of Tukwila, Washington, accepting an offer from Mario A. Segale to place Christmas decorations in City Hall. MOVED BY HARRIS, SECONDED BY DUFFIE, THAT RESOLUTION NO. 838 BE ADOPTED AS READ. MOTION CARRIED. Mayor Van Dusen extended his thanks to all those who were involved in the visit of our distinguished guests from Ikawa, Japan. He read a Proclamation honoring our visitors and de- claring November 12 through November 16, 1982 as Ikawa Days in the City of Tukwila. He proclaimed all members of the Japanese delegation as honorary citizens of Tukwila. Following are the names of the visiting adults who accompanied 35 fourteen and fifteen year old students: Mr. Hideo Henmi, leader of the delegation Mrs. Keiko Horie Mr. Tadao Kamibayashi Mr. Kiyomi Kondo Mr. Tsutomu Asa Mr. Osamu Sato Mr. Fumiko Sakamoto Mr. Kiyofumi Nakataki Mr. Masamichi Takenaka Mr. Hisaaki Fujikawa Mr. Hideo Henmi delieverd a message from Mayor Toshio Yuchida of Ikawa. Mayor Van Dusen expressed his thoughts on this fourth visit of citizens from our Sister City, Ikawa -cho. Gifts of friendship from city to city and from Mayor to Mayor were exchanged. Tukwila Council Members expressed their thoughts on the visit of the Sister City delegation. Miss Fumiko Sakamoto presented gifts to those that have worked so hard in starting and continuing the Sister City relationship. Dr. John Fotheringham, Superintendent of South Central School District and Mr. John Anderson, Chairman of the School Board presented an American Flag that had flown over the United States Capitol Building to Mr. Henmi. Speakers Mrs. Katherine Ostrom, Vice Principal of Showalter Middle School. Mr. Tadao Kamibayashi, visitor from Japan. Solos Mr. Tsutomu Asa, singing a "Karaoka." Mrs. Keiko Horie, music teacher, Ikawa Junior High School. Mr. Hideo Henmi, Leader of the Delegation. ..17 ?S' Miss Kazuko Kaneshima, winner of the Prefecture spelling contest. She was No. 1 out of approximately 100,000 students. Miss Connie Avery, Student Representative, from Tyee High School. Miss Hard Basich, Student Representative, from Showalter Middle School. TUKWILA CITY COUNCIL, REGULAR MEETING November 15, 1982 Page 3 PROGRAM Continued Dancers Miss Kazue Hosokawa, Japanese Folk Dance with the Fan. Miss Susan McFarland, ballet dance. Recognitions Mr. John McFarland thanked all those who worked so hard to make this visit of the Ikawa citizens a tremendous success. He presented Sharon Mann flowers in thanks for supervision and hard work in putting on the Saturday night potluck dinner. Awa Odori The Japanese citizens danced the Awa Odori, a dance of the Prefecture where they live. ADJOURNMENT 9:00 P.M. Mayor Van Dusen invited everyone to enjoy cake and coffee in the lobby.
