I am recommending the following appointments and reappointments as outlined below. Applications are attached for your review. Community Policing Citizens Advisory Board Position #3: John Lindsay has been serving in this position since April 6, 2015 and is interested in continuing to serve in this capacity. I am recommending he be reappointed for an additional term. His new term will expire December 31, 2023. Position #6: Jan Bolerjack has been serving in this position since October 19, 2015 and is interested in continuing to serve in this capacity. I am she be reappointed for an additional term. Equity and Social Justice Commission Position #1: Councilmember Kathy Hougardy has been serving as the Council representative since April 7, 2014 and is interested in continuing to serve in this capacity. Since that time, the Commission has transformed to the Equity and Social Justice Commission. The Sister City Committee has become the Sister City and and Civic Awareness Committee, and is now a subcommittee of Equity and Social Justice. I was the ESJ chair in 2018, and during that year we received equity training, reviewed our bylaws, gave input to the City of Tukwila's Equity Policy, and created a workplan for 2019 and a budget for 2019-2020. This year, with Mikkell Roeland as chair, we have continued this type of work, and continue to give input into policy items that the council is considering. As the Council Representative, I monitor items coming before the council, and notify the Commission of appropriate issues. Conversely, I report back to the Council regarding discussion and actions taking by the Commission. At this time I am one of the "long-term" members of the commission. It is valuable to have some members with historical knowlege to give that insight during new discussions. I would like to continue my work on this commission. (Please limit your response to 500 words or less.) To Whom It May Concern: I'm interested to continue serving as a Tukwila Parks Commissioner for many reasons, a few of which I've outlined below. As 13+ year Tukwila resident I want to remain engaged with my City and my community as a whole. Serving as a Parks Commissioner allows me the great privilege to make an impact on the future of the City I call home. Parks Commission monthly meetings include frequent City staff updates, opportunities to provide feedback on important City policies and documents, and the ability to hear public comments on issues at hand. All of which keep me engaged with various City Departments and Staff, elected officials, my community, as well as educated on future City projects. As a Tukwila Green City Land Steward for the Duwamish Hill Preserve, a restoration project I've worked on for over a decade, I believe I bring an important boots on the ground perspective and institutional knowledge on parks and open space to the commission. I currently organize and lead 6 monthly volunteer restoration work parties at DHP, and thus also serve as a main point of contact with Parks Staff and Forterra during those community events. My continued deep rooted involvement with DHP as a Land Steward and member of the management team allows me to provide important updates to the Commission on progress being made on the site. I truly believe Duwamish Hill Preserve is a crown jewel in the Tukwila Parks system, a place I'm passionate about! Volunteering is a great way to give back to my community! We live in a time where we're all pulled in a million different directions by constant distractions from social media, screen time, and technology. No matter how busy we are, finding time to make an impact in our community and at the place we call home is crucial, thus I'm a big believer of giving back to my community by volunteering my time and knowledge, even if only a few hours a month. I saw living in a smaller city rather than a large county that citizens had better representation. As both a Tukwila resident and a frequent traveler (business and pleasure), it would be my honor to serve my community through participation in StART. I chose to purchase my home in Tukwila due to its proximity to SeaTac, and the convenience that affords me as a frequent traveler. I understand the challenges and the great opportunity for both SeaTac and the Port of Seattle, and the neighboring communities as air travel continues to grow; it will bring new jobs, and congestion, increase the greater Seattle area's connection to the world, and increase noise pollution for residents. Balance and equity for residents, travelers, and the businesses based in and around SeaTac are important. It is important that SeaTac and the Port of Seattle continue to be good neighbors to the residents who call the area home, and that residents support SeaTac and the Port of Seattle to continue to bring growth to the area.
