Call to Order Tukwila Library Advisory Board MINUTES November 5, 2019 5:30 p.m. Tukwila Community Center 2. Roll Call: Steve Miller, Verna Seal, Cynthia Chesak, Marie Parrish, Scott Kruize, Linda McCloud 3. Approval of Agenda and Minutes -Approval of 09/03/2019 and 10/1/19 Minutes (5 minutes). Scott Kruize motioned to approve minutes from the September meeting and notes from the October meeting. Verna Seal seconded the motion, all were in favor and the motion carried. Note, 9/3/19 minutes were not approved at the 10/1/19 meeting as there was not a quorum. 4. Public Comment There were no comments 5. Unfinished Business a. Fall 2019 Initiatives: Stephanie reviewed the 2019 workplan and how the board has contributed to and supported various enrichment programming and community events. After review, Verna Seal motioned to contribute the remaining balance to the Spirit of Giving program to purchase books and games. Scott Kruize seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried. b. Truancy concerns: Scott Kruize presented his concerns regarding truancy at the Tukwila Library, board members asked clarifying questions. Angelina Benedetti provided information about KCLS policies and procedures regarding patronage and library use. Marie Parrish expressed appreciation to Scott for the research that he put into this issue and encouraged him to attend a TSD School Board meeting. 6. New Business a. 2020 Workplan • Marie Parrish motioned that TLAB support the 2020 Dr. Suess event in the amount of $500, Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motioned carried. • Marie Parrish motioned that the Board attend the Board and Commission Social in December and the Board arrive prepared for their next meeting on February 4t", 2020. There will not be a meeting in January 2020. Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion. All were in favor and the motion carried. 7. Reports a. KCLS: Angie Benedetti shared information about the KCLS Strategic Framework for 2020 — 2023, the KCLS preliminary annual operating budget and five-year Capital Investment Program, and the KCLS Levy Lid Lift. b. City of Tukwila: Stephanie Brown shared seasonal program and event information pertaining to the Parks and Recreation Department as well as city-wide announcements. 8. Other a. No comments. 2 9. Adjournment: Marie Parrish moved to adjourn the meeting at 6:59 pm, Linda Mcleod seconded the motion, all in favor and motion carried, For more information contact Stephanie Gardner -Brown at 206-767-2342 3 Attachment A Tukwila Library Advisory Board 2020 Budget and Work Plan TMC 2.33.010 Establishment of Board — Purpose The Library Advisory Board ("Board") is hereby established to serve in an advisory capacity to the, Mayor and the City Council and shall submit to the Mayor and City Council any recommendations regarding library services. The Board shall: 1. C.ondUCt an annual review of the library agreement between the City and the King County Library Systern, 2. Recommend programs for library services to be incorporated into such agreement, 3. Develop recornmended programs to prornote library services for City citizens, and make the OUblic aware of those facilities that are available for PUblic use. 4. Assist in planning, scheduling and participating in special programs or protects, such as setting Up displays, making posters, providing information to the media, etc. S. Meet with a variety of public gl'OUPS to prornote library services for City citizens, including the King County Library System and library staff. G. Promote gift giving/donations to the library, including setting standards for such gifts. 7.
