COPCAB Minutes
March 14, 2019

Members Present: Kim Karns, John Lindsay, Tosh Sharp, Roger Arnold

Guest: Mayor Ekberg
• Minutes for 1/10/19 approved
• Chief s update:
• Biggest issue is currently staffing
• 3 Lateral Officers started from Atlanta
• 2 new records specialists
• Will have the Community Police Team back up and running soon with
the new staff.
• Officer Valdez, the Community Liaison Officer has been working on Homeless
issues.
• There is a huge homeless complex behind the Jack in the Box on West
Valley Hwy. It is a large encampment. Have been working with that
group to get folks resources and find other living space.
• TAC team still working on reports for the grow house a S 160th and 48th Ave S.
• Question about red light cameras.
• Have any been installed? Not yet, now looking at also installing
school zone speed cameras
• Question about the NRC. Is it open to the public? If there is an officer there,
they can assist, but the door is usually locked for safety.
• Survey update —
• Roger had sample translations. Mayor Ekberg offered to have the Mayor's
office pay for translation
• Distribution methods discussed
• Community Connectors and/or high school to proof translations
• Use CLT to distribute language specific surveys
• Good of the Order
• John — What was the deal at the mall on Saturday? A U-tube celebrity had
posted on social media that they should all show up at the mall and shut it
down. They started a stampede and caused a lot of panic and stress in

employees and visitors. This all started on the second floor. It was about 500
kids. John may bring us scones for the next meeting.
