Tukwila Library Advisory Board
MINUTES
May 7, 2019 5:30 p.m. Tukwila Community Center
1. Call to Order: Chair Steve Miller called the meeting to order at 5:32 pm
2. Attendance/Roll Call:

KCLS Staff: Angelina Benedetti - Regional Manager - KCLS Executive Director, Lisa Rosenblum, John Sheller

City Staff: Stephanie Gardner -Brown, Parks and Recreation Management Analyst
3. Agenda and Approval Minutes: Scott Kruize motioned to approve the agenda and accept the minutes of
March 5, 2019, Verna Seal seconded the motion and there was unanimous approval.
4. Public Comment: None
5. Unfinished Business:
a. Parking Concerns Follow Up: Board members discussed continued concerns. Verna Seal will
connect further with City Staff and provide updates via email and at a future meeting. Angelina
Benedetti met with Derek Speck, Tukwila's Economic Development Director, to review the Sullivan
Center parking agreement — she provided a brief overview of the plan to the Board. Library parking
will be signed and will say: library parking during library business hours only.
6. New Business:
a. Introduction: KCLS Executive Director, Lisa Rosenblum. Director Rosenblum introduced herself and
shared her public service experience.
b. Political and Financial Environment of KCLS: John Sheller, Government Relations Manager,
distributed the "Political and Financial Environment of KCLS" pamphlet. Director Rosenblum
reviewed the pamphlet with the board and reviewed how budgeting works with the library.
7. Reports:
a. KCLS: Angelina Benedetti:
■ The Board was invited to the KCLS Boulevard Park Library opening on Saturday, May 18,
2019. She also provided a brief history of the library.
■ Ms. Benedetti went before the Tukwila City Council in April 2019 to share how the library
meets strategic plan goals.
b. Tukwila Parks and Recreation: Stephanie Gardner -Brown
■ The Older Adult Recreation and Services Needs Assessment was presented to Council on
4/22/19. Staff will be applying for the next round of funding to support the development
of a regional senior hub. The hub will be comprised of partners to help maximize resources.
Resource navigator/cultural outreach/therapeutic recreation opportunities.
■ Backyard Wildlife Festival is this Saturday, May 11, 2019, 10 am — 3pm
■ Stephanie Gardner shared the summer event line up and encouraged Board members to
attend the service.

9. Next Meeting: Tuesday, June 4, 2019 —June meeting will be moved June 11, 2019 Scott Kruize motioned,
Verna Seal seconded.
10. Adjournment: Scott Kruize moved to close the meeting at 6:30 pm, Marie Parrish seconded the motion, all
were in favor and the motion passed unanimously.
