DISCUSSION
Mayor Culver explained that 6600 people live in Issaquah; they
are primarily a bedroom community, but they provide services
to 20,000 people.
The Mayor is part -time and operates with a full time City
Administrator. The City Administrator is the Personnel Officer
and he gives about 90% of the direction to the Department Heads.
The Mayor and Administrator work closely together. The City
Administrator is a professionally trained person. The Mayor
does about 80% of the liaison with the Council.
The part -time Mayor with a professional Administrator is a
compromise between the Mayor /Council and the Council /Manager
forms of government. The success of this form is the working
relationship between the Mayor and the tull -time Administrator.
The part -time Mayor position offers a larger segment of the
community to be Mayor.
After considerable discussion, the meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
