During this difficult and unprecedented time, we are facing shortages of Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE) around the globe. The same strikes true for our first responders here in Washington
State. Law enforcement agencies statewide have made operational changes to help alleviate the
potential risk of contracting COVID-19 during the course of their duties. Statewide, law enforcement
officers continue to respond to thousands of calls for service a day knowing that with each call, they
are potentially being exposed to COVID-19.
Facebook recognized this risk that our law enforcement officers are taking day in and day out and
stepped in to help. On April 2nd, Facebook generously donated 4,000 N95 masks to the King County
Sheriff's Office for distribution to law enforcement agencies in King County. These masks were shared
with law enforcement agencies in Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Normandy Park, Port of
Seattle, Renton and Tukwila.
On behalf of all the agencies that received these critical PPE supplies, we want to share a heartfelt
thank you to Facebook for protecting our law enforcement officers during this medical crisis. These
N95 masks will safely allow our law enforcement officers to perform their duties while minimizing the
risk of exposure to themselves and others. With supplies dwindling, this critical piece of safety
equipment would not have been accessible to our law enforcement officers in such numbers if not for
the efforts of Facebook.
