The agencies involved in the shooting were the Seattle Police Department and the King County Sheriff's Office. The Valley Independent Investigative team (VIIT) continues to serve as the independent investigative team. VIIT is a multi -agency team made up of investigators from seven south King County Police Departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Port of Seattle, and Tukwila). The investigation has been completed and has been forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review. The suspect is still in the custody of the King County Jail, being held on bail. Since the last information release on February 61h, 2020, VIIT has conducted the warrant service on the suspect vehicle that was seized on the day of the incident. A loaded firearm was recovered along with suspected drugs (pending testing). There is no further information for release at this time. The investigation is still on going. The suspect is recovering from a non -life -threatening single gunshot wound to his hand and has been released from the hospital into the custody of the King County Jail. Since the last information release on January 291", 2020, VIIT has been able to collect witness statements and schedule the warrant service on the suspect vehicle that was seized on the day of the incident. Seattle Officers and King County Deputies had been working a joint undercover operation to purchase drugs from a 28-year-old male subject. After the transaction took place the suspect was contacted by uniform police while he was parked in the 200 block of Blanchard Street. During that contact the suspect was positively identified as the subject involved in the drug purchase. When the officers contacted the suspect, he was still seated in the driver's seat of his vehicle. While officers were talking with him through the window of his car, the suspect put the car in gear and accelerated in an attempt to flee. He rammed a police vehicle and abruptly came to a stop. Officers approached the suspect's vehicle. As officers approached, body -worn cameras of officers on scene recorded an officer shouting that the suspect had a gun. Seconds later two Seattle Police Officers and two King County Sheriff's Deputies fired their weapons at the suspect in the car. The suspect was then removed from the car and placed in handcuffs. The suspect received a non -life -threatening single gunshot wound to his hand and was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The suspect remains in custody pending charges. No one else was injured during the incident. The Valley Independent Investigation team (VIIT) was immediately called and was requested to serve as the independent investigative team. VIIT is a multi -agency team made up of investigators from seven south King County Police Departments (Auburn, Des Moines, Federal Way, Kent, Renton, Tukwila, Port of Seattle). Upon arrival, VIIT took over the immediate scene, and began processing it for evidence. A handgun could be seen inside the suspect's vehicle. The vehicle has been seized and is pending a search warrant for recovery. The investigation is still on going as we continue to process collected evidence and reach out to potential witnesses, including searching local businesses for potential video footage.
