1. Call to Order, Roll Call& Introduction of Guests: Chair Sheila Coppola called the meeting to order at 6pm.
Attendance:

2. Approval of Agenda: Helen Enguerra moved to accept the agenda. Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion.
The motion passed unanimously.
3. Approval of Minutes: Trisha Gilmore moved to accept the minutes for 1.22.20 meeting. Jaleh Sadravi
seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
4. Special Presentation: Kara Martin, Food Innovation Network (FIN) Program Director —Ms. Martin provided
an overview of FIN and the Tukwila Village Food Hall. She described a proposal that FIN will be submitting to
4Culture seeking funding and support for a project with local artist, Hoa Hong. The commission asked
questions and discussed the project and the food hall. Sheila Coppola made a motion to provide a letter of
support for the proposal being submitted to ZiCulture, Trisha Gilmore seconded the motion. The motion
passed unanimously. Commissioners encouraged Ms. Martin to return if she receives funding and needs

5. Unfinished Business:
a. Public Safety Plan Art: Rachel Bianchi, Deputy City Administrator, provided a brief history of the
Public Safety Building art projects. She had attended the May 2019 Arts Commission meeting to
provide an overview of art projects. On January 27, 2020 public comments regarding artwork
murals at Fire stations 51 and 52 raised concerns over the racial and gender diversity
represented in the murals. On February 24, 2020 the Community Services and Safety
Committee asked that the Arts Commission weigh in on the issue. Ms. Bianchi introduced
Battalion Captain Dawn Judkins who serves as a staff representative for projects related to the
public safety buildings construction. Ms. Judkins, provided insights to the project including the
location of the murals and fire staff response. Commissioners asked questions and provided
their different perspectives, including suggesting the artist be provided feedback about how the
images represent Tukwila residents. Rachel Bianchi thanked the commission and will provide
feedback to the artist.

6. New Business:
e. BuhenActorsTheater—SwmmerTheater|ntbePark: Commissioners discussed the play being
offered and the BuhenActooTheatre. Stephanie Brown provided information about the See
You in the Park event series and shared there may be one or two events that this may be a good
fit for. Commissioners discussed the desire tokeep aneye out for theatre opportunities and
programs that represent the community and/or may represent issues those in Tukwila
experience. Stephanie will follow upwfShawn Be|yeaand BurienActors Theatre.
b. 6ary6tmoutsos Grand Canyon film orflute presentation: The commission discussed the
information provided byMr. Stroutos and determined they were not prepared tVoffer stand-
alone events atthis time. They asked that Mr. Stroutnsstay |mtouch for future opportunities.
c. Stories VfArrival Display and Event /TCC Social Hall, April 22"a,5:0O-7:UOpmk Stephanie
provided information about the display and the reception onApril 22"«. The Commission
suggested thatifthere are additional stories 10share, could beplaced onthe art wall leading up
tothe reception? Tracy Gallaway will follow up with Sheila Coppola, Sheila is sending an email
toK8ernaHecht todiscuss the possibility.
Commission/Staff Report Outs:
• Tracy Gallaway, Staff Liaison: Stephanie provided information about See You inthe Park events.
o Sheila Coppola: Pastor Jan Bm|erjackis interested inlearning about funding opportunities through
the Arts Commission, It was suggested toinvite her tmafuture meeting toshare information about
music programs she offers tothe community.
• Pinky Estell — Non-profit student art spaces is a new non-profit that is organized and run by teens rs.
Pinky suggested extending aninvite 1mthe group toattend afuture meeting socommissioners can
learn about what they are doing. Mr. Este||has finished meeting with the Tukwila School District
regarding the Performing Arts Center, hewill provide areport a1the next meeting.
• Cynthia Chesak/Dylan Mahler — Ms. Chesak and Mr. Mahler provided information about the Foster
High School construction project and support from the Washington State Arts Commission to install
artwork. They are working with a group of school district representatives and will report back as
projects move forward. FVS construction project receiving $fvom the Washington State Arts
Commission for art mn site. Dylan reported out omthe Washington State Arts... New construction at
the FNSqua|ifies for funding from the state arts commission. Cynthia and Dylan had a mmeetimgvv/
several school administrator and the state. Together, they will brainstorm ideas and then consult
the VVAState arts list for the group toselect anartist that will bea good match for the project.
Considerable amount of$$- The other thing that came out ofthe meeting —there were two
paintings completed byBill Cumming — Cynthia was mfthe understanding that hedonated the
paintings. Technically, the VVAStates Arts Commission owns the pieces.
o Trisha Gilmore: The Rotating Art Wall committee would like to put out a call for artists the rotating
art program, The committee suggests offering astipend for artists asthere are expenses incurred to
display their art. A $250 stipend was suggested. The committee also suggesting offering the
opportunity for selected artists to offer a workshop to community members and providing a $150
stipend ifthey choose tooffer the workshop. Helen Enguernamotioned toprovide $1000|n
stipends toartists annually who display mnthe rotating art wall, Pinky EyteUseconded the motion
