The logs have been installation. , ►? ^1,1 - 14 sourced from managed private property where the slowly with the bark on, then cut to our specification air -drying outside for an additional 6 months prior to • Diameter at base ---7" tapering to —5" at top, finished lengths are --- 9'3" and 7'9". • Logs are left untreated to age naturally and to minimize maintenance. B) Fastenings: All fastenings are Grade 5, 3/8" diameter galvanized steel. Grade 5 has a proof load (can handle load with out deformity) of 85,000 psi and a tensile strength (breaking point) of 120,000 psi. • Fastenings going into the cedar logs are through -bolted with threaded rod. • Connections from the cedar logs to the roof are through -bolted with carriage bolts. Metal Specifications: C) Tube steel connection of post to concrete. Each post is 30" long A513 mild steel 1.75"OD x 0.25" Wall. Tensile strength = 87,000 psi. Construction notes: • Cedar log bottom does not touch the concrete footing. This is to allow air to circulate and prevent rotting. • Tube is bedded in System 3 epoxy with silica thickener on the log end. Metal tube is then primed with epoxy primer prior to placement in concrete. D) Flat steel (powdercoated) for the sign -support triangles. 2 triangles total. Material is 1018 steel (same spec as above). 1 1/2" wide x 1/4" thickness. Wood Specifications: F) Douglas Fir quarter sawn for the trim under the roof. Laminated with epoxy from two pieces for rigidity. 2 1/2" H X 1 1/2" W X 8' L G) Cedar for all the dimensional wood requirements such as: shingles, nail strip, and spacers. Untreated to minimize maintenance. • Note: the roof detail is based on recommendations from the B.C. Shake and Shingle Association, Canada for low -slope roofs. • A layer of roll -type asphalt membrane may be applied to the top surface of the marine plywood for added moisture protection. • As this roof covers a relatively small area (and therefore greater access to ventilation front and back), we may adjust the thickness of nail strips and spacers downward to reduce overall roof thickness. H) 4mm Hydrotec marine plywood for the base Layer of the roof (3 pieces laminated with epoxy to create the curved shape—total thickness — 1/2"). Built to British Standard 1088, which means it is suitable for boatbuilding where hull material is required. It is guaranteed not to have voids in its laminations and utilizes waterproof phenolic glue. Coating & Adhesives: • System -3 epoxy is used through out the project to laminate marine ply and trim pieces. • System 3 water-based, satin, polyurethane will be used to further and seal the marine ply.
