Call to Order, Roll Call & Introduction of Guests: Chair Sheila Coppola called the meeting to order at 6:07pm. Attendance: Commission Members Present: Pinky Estell, Sheila Coppola, Jaleh Sadravi, Helen Enguerra, Shawn Belyea, Cynthia Chesak and Dylan Mahler Commission Members Absent: Trisha Gilmore Staff: Tracy Gallaway 2. Approval of Agenda: Cynthia Chesak to accept the agenda. Pinky Estell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes: Helen Enguerra moved to accept the minutes for 7.22.20 and 8.12.20 meetings. Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Unfinished Business: a. Summer Arts Engagement Ideas i. Art Scavenger Hunt — Arts commissioners discussed developing the art scavenger hunt for 2021. Shawn Belyea will create a project plan with timeline that will be used for developing a task list and timeline for this event. ii. Art in the Parks —Tracy Gallaway and Pinky Estell have a meeting scheduled with Tara Fisher from Ignition NW to discuss opportunities for temporary installations in Tukwila Parks. b. Southcenter District Art —Tracy Gallaway shared that this project is moving forward. Sidewalk art developed by artist Beth Gahan will be installed along Baker Blvd in late September. Tracy will inform the Arts Commissioners about the specific installation date in case they would like to be present to assist with the install or observe the process. 5. New Business: a. Budget — 2020 Spending; 2021-2022 Proposed Budget discussion: Tracy Gallaway shared that there are still 2020 funds available to support art implementation. Funds will be used to support art installations in Tukwila parks. For 2021-2022 the budget has been reduced by 20%. 6. Commission/Staff Report Outs: o Tracy Gallaway, Staff Liaison: The Rainier Symphony reported that they do not believe they will be able to safely perform again until sometime in 2021. Tracy also reported that she is working with an outside contractor to assist with inventorying and assessing the condition of the City's Public Art Collection. This work will begin in October and may continue into 2021. Tracy also reported that as part of capital improvements occurring at some Tukwila parks staff is looking at potential sites for mural work and utility box art. More information to come on these projects as they develop. o Sheila Coppola: Reported that she and Jaleh met with students Jennifer Tran and Alexis Mburu. They are interested in doing an art project at Foster High School. It was suggested that we connect them with the people involved with the art/bench project currently being planned. The next meeting is September 15th from 3-5pm. Dylan said he would connect them to Maricel Haessig since she is coordinating that project. o Dylan Mahler: Dylan noted that he is going to begin the search for a new student representative since he will be graduating in 2021. It was confirmed that there is no specific student artist discipline, just someone that is eager to work on art opportunities in Tukwila and that generally we are looking for a sophomore student to apply that will then spend their Junior and Senior year serving as the student rep to the Arts Commission. 7. Other —Tracy is still working on developing the Utility Box Art program and hopes to pilot this program this fall. 8. Agenda for Next/Future Meetings: Community Engagement; Utility Box Art Program. 9. Adjournment: Cynthia Chesak motioned to adjourn the meeting at 7:17 pm Helen Enguerra seconded the motion.
