HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 0250 - Nominate Candidates for General Election (Repealed by Ord 569)ORDINANCE NO 250 REPEALED ORD 569 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE FILING OF DECLARATIONS OF CANDIDACY AND THE PAYING OF A PTTING FEE THEREFOR AS THE METHOD FOE NOMINATING CANDIDATES FOR THE MUNICIPAL- GENERAL ELECTION, PROVIDING FOR THE REQUIRED FILING DATES, AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 139, AND ALL OTHER ORDINANCES GR PARTS THEREOF IN CONFLICT HEREWITH. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TUKWILA: Section 10 FILING OF DECLARATION AND AFFIDAVIT OF CANDIDACY. REQUIRED FILING DA1ES. anyone desiring to become a candidate for any elective office for the Town of Tukwila, Washington, shall file a declaration of candidacy and an affidavit that he is not a "subversive person" as defined by Section 1 (e), Chapter 254, Laws of 1951 of the State of Washington and file the same with the Town. Clerk not more than sixty (60) nor less than forty -five (45) days prior to the Town General election. Section 2. FILING FEE. Each declaration and affidavit of canidacy shall be accompanied by a filing fee equal to 1 per cent of the annual salary of the office being filed for; Provided, however, that no filing fee is required in the event that the office sought is without compensation. Section 3. WITHDRAWAL OF CANDIDACY. Any person shall have the right to withdraw Iris candidacy at any time within five (5) days after the last day allowed for filing declarations of candidacy. Section 4. DUTIES OF THE TOWN CLERK. It shall be the duty of the Town Clerk to certify and file a list of candidates with the County Auditor not less than thirty -five (35) days before the town general election. Section 5. PLRSONS PRECLUDED FROM FILING A DECLAi OF CANDIDACY FOR MORE THAN ONE OFFICE. No person may file a declaration of candidacy for more than one office. Section 6. PARTIAL INVALIDITY. If any portion of this ordinance shall be adjudged invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the portions which are not adjudged invalid. Section 7. CO:Nir'LICTING ORDINANCES REPEALED. Ordinance No. 139 and all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with, or in derogation of, this ordinance or any part of this ordinance, be and the same are hereby repealed insofar as the sarrie are in conflict with, or in derogation of, this ordinance, or any part hereof.
