MINUTES
January 5, 2021 5:30pm Location: VIRTUAL, held via Microsoft Teams
Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 5:35 pm
1. Roll Call: There was not a formal role call however introductions were made as KCLS has assigned a new
staff liaison, Philis Bodle and Tukwila Parks and Recreation also has a new staff liaison, John Dunn.

2. Approval of Agenda and Minutes
a. Scott Kruize motioned to accept the agenda and minutes from the October 6, 2020 meeting as
written. Verna Seal seconded the motion, all were in favor.
3. Public Comments: There were no public comments.
4. New Business
a. Chair Rotation: Gerie Ventura is the incoming chair and not in attendance. The incoming Vice
Chair is Verna Seal. Marie Parrish continued in the role of chair until the next meeting.
b. 2021 Goals: The board discussed potential 2021 goals. Ideas included the following:
• Starting a senior/older adult book club. KCLS staff offered guidance from KCLS Senior
Program Staff.
• Little Free Libraries in Tukwila parks. Two Little Free Libraries were purchased in late
2020 and TLAB will partner with the Arts Commission to solicit an artist to paint prior to
placing. Staff will work with Arts Commission Liaison staff to determine next steps.
• Guests at future meeting: ideas included KCLS Foundation Director (Ken Ryles) and KCLS
Director of Diversity of Equity and Inclusion (Dominica Meyers). Board members also
suggested the KCLS Senior Programs Coordinator would be a welcome guest.
• Pen pal Program between Tukwila seniors and children.
c. 2021 Budget: Staff will return to TLAB with a proposal that integrates the above ideas and
recommendations to discuss at the next meeting.
d. 2021 Meeting Schedule

After a brief discussion it was determined that it would be best to meet sooner than April as there
is too much uncertainty given the pandemic. Steve Miller motioned to meet on meet on February
2, 2020, Scott Kruize seconded the motion, all were in favor.
5. Reports
a. KCLS: Staff reported that KCLS is boosting wi-fi in several parking lots throughout the library
system to ensure wi-fi access. Tukwila Library will be one of the first libraries to reopen once it
is deemed safe to open to the public again.
b. City of Tukwila: Staff provided an overview of the Spirit of Giving program, which TLAB helped
to support with literacy -based games, books, and other activities. Staff also shared information
about community services, including the Senior Meal Drop and Park n' Play programs.
6. Other: There was no additional discussion.
7. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held on February 2, 2021.
8. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 6:35 pm.
