City of Tukwila E-Hazelnut Newsletter September 2019 Tukwila Village Food Hall coming soon Quick Links City of Tukwila Website City Employment Opportunities Fall 2019 Activities Guide TukTV Imagine entering a space where you're surrounded with delicious and diverse foods from all over the world available for purchase. This vision - the Tukwila Village Food Hall - will be the first of its kind in South King County. Currently under construction, theFood Innovation Network (FIN) plans to open this 2,900-square-foot facility in spring 2020. The Tukwila Village Food Hall includes: Tukwila Elected Officials a commercial kitchen with four cook stations, Mayor: Allan Ekberg a community dining area, five food retail stalls, with one stall assigned for City Council: cooking demos and food and art pop-ups. Kathy Hougardy (Council President) Dennis Robertson The project provides twenty food businesses access to Verna Seal affordable commercial kitchen space. Also, eight De'Sean Quinn entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to sell their food on Kate Kruller site and build a strong customer base. Thomas McLeod Zak Idan A program of Global to Local, Food Innovation Network helps entrepreneurs develop and build their own food businesses. It provides training, mentoring, affordable kitchen space, and customer connections. FIN's mission is to: enhance the local food system, increase access to healthy food, create pathways for success, and support resource-and idea-sharing that engages the diverse communities of SeaTac/Tukwila and South King County. FIN uses a collective impact model to bring community perspective and organizational expertise together in collaboration. New Artist in Residence at the Tukwila Community Center The Tukwila Arts Commission is proud to feature local artist, John Taylor at the Tukwila Community Center through November 2019. John's installation - "Mr. Zig Zag at the Duwamish Curve Café" - includes 30 colorful mixed-media paintings. Each painting is unique and each compliments the overall work. John will be hosting an artist's social on Tuesday, October 15 from 2:30 to 4:30pm. John received his BA from Alfred University in NY and MFA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He has been awarded project grants from 4Culture Seattle in 2010 and in 2019 for this project. In 2010 he received the Distinguished Staff Award from the University of Washington. In 2008 he was nominated for the Needy Fellowship for the Beknke Foundation Award and a Gap Grant from Artists Trust in 2007. In 1983 he was awarded an Artist Fellowship in Painting from the Artist Foundation in Boston Massachusetts. John, known for his ceramics and pottery, has exhibited locally and nationally. This will be his first all painting exhibition on the west coast. This exhibit is made possible with generous help from 4Culture. Join us for a Waste Free Workshop on October 8, 2019 Join us for a FREE, interactive workshop on reducing waste, recycling and composting. Attendees will learn how to store food to make it last longer, get resources for reusing materials and learn how to recycle unusual items. Participants will also receive freerecycling and waste reduction materials to take home. All ages are welcome. Bring your questions to a reoccurring Transportation Drop-In event at the Tukwila Village King County Library. Representatives from City of Tukwila's South King County Transportation Options, King County Metro's ORCA To-Go, King County Public Health's Access and Outreach, and Hopelink will be there to assist with mobility solutions. They also can help get the right ORCA card (transit pass) for you and take care all of your ORCA card needs. Come by between 1:30pm and 3:30pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of every month!
