TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, REPEALING RESOLUTION
NO. 1936 AND DESIGNATING A TEMPORARY STORAGE
LOCATION FOR WEAPONS DURING MUNICIPAL COURT
PROCEEDINGS.
WHEREAS, RCW 9.41.300(1)(b) prohibits weapons in courtrooms, jury rooms,
judge's chambers, offices and areas used to conduct court business, waiting areas, and
corridors adjacent to areas used in connection with court proceedings; and
WHEREAS, RCW 9.41.300(1)(b) defines weapons as any firearm, explosive as
defined in RCW 70.74.010, orany weapon of the kind usually known as slung shot, sand
club, or metal knuckles, orany knife, dagger, dirk, or other similar weapon that is capable
of causing death or bodily injuryand is commonly used with the intentto cause death or
bodily injury; and
WHEREAS, RCW 9.41.300(1)(b) requires the local legislative authority to provide
eithera stationary locked box or designate an official to receive weapons for safekeeping
during the owner's visit to restricted areas, and that the locked box or designated official
be located within the same building used forcourt proceedings; and
WHEREAS, the Tukwila Municipal Court is located at the City of Tukwila's Justice
Center, 15005 Tukwila- International Boulevard;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA,
WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Persons visiting the Tukwila Municipal Court can temporarily store their
firearms or other weapons in the gun storage room located at the Tukwila Justice Center,
15005 Tukwila International Boulevard.
Section 2. Resolution No. 1936 is repealed.
