Call to Order, Roll Call & Introduction of Guests: Guest Chair Dylan Mahler called the meeting to order at 6:55pm. Attendance: Commission Members Present: Sheila Coppola, Pinky Estell, Helen Enguerra (virtual), Cynthia Chesak, and Dylan Mahler Commission Members Absent: Jaleh Sadravi, Shawn Belyea, Trisha Gilmore Staff: Tracy Gallaway, Arts Commission staff liaison and Acting Parks & Recreation Director Guests: Thanipa Suwanchote (virtual) (potential student rep for 2021-2023 school year) 2. Approval of Agenda: Sheila Coppola to accept the agenda as presented. Cynthia Chesak seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 3. Approval of Minutes: Cynthia Chesak moved to accept the minutes for 5.26.21. Pinky Estell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 4. Unfinished Business: Commissioners discussed the April presentation "Benefits & Process for Intentional Cultural Planning" — presented by Una McAlinden, Creative Strategy Solutions. Commissioners agreed that they would like to work with Una to develop a strategic plan for Tukwila Arts that focuses on community engagement with the intention of developing goals, action/implementation plan, and collaboration. 5. Commission/Staff Rep Report Outs: o Tracy Gallaway, Staff Liaison: • Utility Box Art Pilot Project — Artists are working on their concept sketches and will be reviewed by staff for approval and/or suggestions. The final designs are due at the end of July, with installation occurring in August. • Youth Art Classes in partnership with Arts Corps — No update. • Tukwila Justice Center — TJC staff are interested in using pieces from the City's public art collection. Once the inventory is complete staff will work to see which pieces make sense to utilize at the TJC. • Juneteenth Celebration — The City hosted a Juneteenth Commemoration event on the Experience Tukwila website. The presentation can be found here. • Park Arts/Mural Projects — 46 artist applicants for 20 opportunities. These include 10 mural locations and 10 banner locations. Artists will be working on projects in July and August. o Dylan Mahler: • Art at FHS — In May, the FHS art committee is meeting for the final design proposal meeting. Seating element in the central courtyard at Foster High School. Install over the summer, with a tentative dedication date in early September. • Expanding network to get art opportunities out to students at Raisbeck Aviation HS. Draft Minutes 6.23.21 • Student Rep Position — position is open. • Aviation HS students — Tracy connected AHS students with Recreation Specialist Darren Hawkins to see about a possible collaboration with the after school program this fall at TCC. 6.
