Deputy Chief Lund will look into this ✓ Are there any public disclosure issues with our discussions and use of names? ✓ Do our public minutes need to be less specific so there isn't a problem of publishing names mentioned as problems? ✓ Can we get the minutes more in advance? ✓ Deputy Chief Lund will send out the by-laws o Community Engagements ✓ CPT team met with Hotel Interurban/Airmark to talk about an increase in crime ✓ Marvelle has had officers come in to do a safety presentation ✓ Officers have had meetings with Holden, the new memory care facility ✓ Property around Sabey has become a hot spot and needs more emphasis patrols. It is hard to catch car prowlers in action. ✓ Officers have monthly meetings with Cascade Behavioral Hospital o Miscellaneous ✓ Uptick in shoplifts — need extra security ✓ TPD is planning for implementation of the new legislation effective 7/25/21. They are working on a plan for this. o Hard to get applicants for the force? Why? ✓ Some may be leaving to go to other departments. Why? • Some are leaving for personal reasons — moving, etc. • Signing bonus — Renton $20,000, Bellevue - $25,000, Tukwila - $5,000 ✓ 20 applicants for entry level position in one month — used to be 1,000 applicants ✓ Bonuses have time requirements — often a 3 -year commitment to the force ✓ Starting pay for entry officer? About $75-80k ✓ Rank in the area in terms of pay? Hard to say because it is based on population, number of calls, etc. We are on the lower end. Other departments have more incentives — cars, retirement, health care, etc. ✓ Who makes the decision about terms of employment? Union and city agree on who the comparables are. HR director and Guild. o How was the 4th of July? ✓ Less calls than last year — 33 this year, 56 last year. ✓ Worst year for fireworks — booms all night ✓ Extra officers on duty Saturday and Sunday for fireworks calls ✓ Nothing caught on fire • Good Of The Order: o John — Wife says the Justice Center is very inviting and utilitarian in appearance. His wife also said it is beautiful inside. Once it is open, it will be active and welcoming. ✓ Deputy Chief Lund said that as of July 6, the police side is open. Masks are still required. Fax (206) 431-3688 ✓ The police have some ideas to welcome the public. They include a 3 -on -3 basketball tournament on 150th or in the north parking lot, a food truck rodeo, etc. They are hoping to turn the corner and be able to have more fun plans in the works. ✓ Parking is frustrating. o What about a firearms training for residents? ✓ Officers could teach general firearms safety- safe storage, cleaning, etc. Could they do a safety class specifically for young people? They probably could not teach a shooting class. o Next meeting will be in person at the EOC! (Update: as of 8/4/21, due to increase in COVID cases, meeting will be back to virtual via Microsoft Teams) o Night Out Against Crime — there has been talk of having this again this year.
