HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1298 - Ballot Proposition Language for Proposition #1 Allentown Annexation CITY of TUK WILA WASHINGTON ORDINN3CE NO. /c;2 98 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, SETTING FORTH THE BALLOT PROPOSITION LANGUAGE FOR PROPOSITION #1 IN THE ELECTION FOR ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN TERRITORY CONTIGUOUS TO THE CITY OF TUKWILA (COMMONLY KNOWN AS "ALLENTOWN AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY WHEREAS: 1. The City Council of the City of Tukwila, Washington, passed at a Regular Meeting of July 5, 1983, Ordinance #1293, calling for an election for annexation of certain territory contiguous to the City of Tukwila (commonly known as "Allentown providing for assumption by said territory of City bonded indebtedness and zoning said territory and declar- ing an emergency; and 2. Section 4 of Ordinance #1293 provided that upon passage by the electorate of the annexation proposal and certification of results by King County: "All property within this territory annexed hereby shall be assessed and taxed at the same rate and on the same basis as property within the City of Tukwila, including assess- ment of taxes and payment of any bonds issued or debts contracted prior to or existing at the date of annexation." 3. The Office of the City Attorney and King County have agreed that language should be added to Proposition #1, the proposed annexation proposition, in order to make sure that the electorate understands that Proposition #2 regarding the assumption of indebtedness must be also passed in order for there to be an annexation; NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Tukwila, Washington, does ordain as follows: Section 1. The ballot proposition (Proposition #1) regarding the annexation of Allentown as contemplated by 11+.1 �S C F,, t+, v L.V �o'r�.cu' w Ordinance #1293 shall be as follows for Proposition No. 1: PROPOSITION NO. 1 PROPOSED ANNEXATION TO THE CITY OF TUKWILA Shall the area of unincorporated territory con- tiguous to the City of Tukwila commonly known as Allentown as described in Ordinance 1293 of the City of Tukwila, and King County Ordinance No. 6479, be annexed to the City of Tukwila and upon annexation, become subject to the proposed zoning regulation adopted for said area by Tukwila Ordinance No. 1118? (This proposition for the annexation and adoption of the zoning regulation shall be void and have no effect if proposition No. 2 regarding the assumption of indebtedness does not pass.) FOR ANNEXATION AND ADOPTION OF PROPOSED ZONING REGULATION/AGAINST ANNEXATION AND ADOPTION OF PROPOSED ZONING REGULATION Section 2. The adoption of this Ordinance shall be declared an emergency.
