PERMIT CONDITIONS: 1: Maintain fire extinguisher coverage throughout. 5: Fire protection systems shall be maintained in accordance with the original installation standards for that system. Required systems shall be extended, altered or augmented as necessary to maintain and continue protection whenever the building is altered, remodeled or added to. All welding shall be done by a Washington Association of Building Official Certified welder. 14: Installation of high-strength bolts shall be periodically inspected in accordance with AISC specifications. 15: When special inspection is required, either the owner or the registered design professional in responsible charge, shall employ a special inspection agency and notify the Building Official of the appointment prior to the first building inspection. The special inspector shall furnish inspection reports to the Building Official in a timely manner. 16: A final report documenting required special inspections and correction of any discrepancies noted in the inspections shall be submitted to the Building Official. The final inspection report shall be prepared by the approved special inspection agency and shall be submitted to the Building Official prior to and as a condition of final inspection approval. 17: All construction shall be done in conformance with the Washington State Building Code and the Washington State Energy Code. 18: All rack storage requires a separate permit issued through the City of Tukwila Permit Center. Rack storage over 8 -feet in height shall be anchored or braced to prevent overturning or displacement during seismic events. The design and calculations for the anchorage or bracing shall be prepared by a registered professional engineer licensed in the State of Washington. Periodic special inspection is required during anchorage of storage racks 8 feet or greater in height. 19: There shall be no occupancy of a building until final inspection has been completed and approved by Tukwila building inspector. This mezzanine consists of premanufactured elements that at bolted together. You are providing layout drawings for the mezzanine. I have been asked to determine the vertical and lateral load carrying capacity of the mezzanine. The design height of the mezzanine is approximately 10'-0" AFF. It consists of a 1-1/8" plywood deck screwed to the supporting joists at 6" o.c. The joists are 6" x 3" x 0.14" 'C' shapes at 24" o.c. that span 10'-0", the beams are 6" x 2.75" x 0.15" `I' shapes that span 8'-0", and the posts are 6" x 3" x 0.10" rectangular shapes with 8" x 8" x 0.375" base plates. The posts are laid out in an 8'-0" x 10'-0" pattern that makes the size of the mezzanine 40'-0" x 32'-0". There is a premanufactured stair system to one side that has independent support. The lateral resisting system uses 2.5".x 2.5" x 3/16" steel angles to create an ordinary x -braced frame on all four sides of the mezzanine. The x -braces will be attached to the steel posts and where they cross with 3/4" diameter A325N bolts. The mezzanine will sit on a 6" thick concrete slab and the posts will be attached to the slab with four 5/8" diameter Simpson SB2 expansion anchors embedded 3.625". Special inspection will be required for the expansion bolt installation. I have reviewed vertical load carrying capacity for a dead load of 15 psf and a light storage live load of 125 psf. Based on the information I have and my attached calculations, the existing mezzanine is structurally acceptable for the imposed loads.
