Entry Soffit Upgrades Dear Rachelle, The purpose of this letter is to response to the plan review comments received in your letter dated 10/2/2017. I have followed the format established in your letter with my responses. 1. Provide architectural stamp, signature and date of that signature on each sheet. All documents created by a design professional shall be provide with current stamp and dated signatures. See General note above. Will Comply. 2. The plans appear to indicate removal of existing fixtures to install the new LED lighting. For clarification, indicate if this requires removal of portions of that existing soffit for access to replace lights. In any case specify how the existing soffit enclosure assembly shall be repaired or sealed back to its original condition. Specify existing soffit materials. Existing soffit material is concrete board with textured stucco finish over wood framing members @ 24" o.c. The original lighting housing will be removed, and the new housing installed. I do not know if the opening will need to be enlarged to accommodate the new fixture. If it is required to be made larger, the soffit can be sealed by adding a layer of 5/8" dens -glass gold exterior rated sheathing around the newly install lighting housing. 3. Provide specific details for the installation of the metal furring strips specifying type of furring to include length and type of fasteners. Specify type of soffit framing. %" x 20 ga. metal hat channels will be installed directly to the underside of the concrete board using 2 %" framing screws @ 24" o.c. The screws will fasten to the wood soffit framing members CORRECTION LTR#. Provide details for the soffit access panel and specify how it shall be secured or locked. It has been determined that the existing metal soffit access panels will remain. We will provide a removal section of ipe wood slats, approximately a 2' x 2' section. This is the same approach used at the existing ipe wood soffit. 5. I believe the key reference at building section R should be #4. Please clarify. This correction has been made to the new drawing set. 6. For clarification, indicate where the existing access panel is as indicated in General note #2 or is that the same as Key Note #2. I have revised Keynote #2, please see sheet A2.1. 7. Provide manufactures specification for the wood slats for verification that the slats comply with fire resistant type materials for Type II building. The ipe wood slats shall comply with Section 1405.5 Wood Veneers. Wood veneers on exterior walls of buildings of Type I, II, III and IV construction shall be not less than 1 inch (25 mm) nominal thickness, 0.438 -inch (11.1mm) mm) exterior hardboard siding or 0.375 -inch (9.5 mm) exterior -type wood structural panels or particleboard and shall conform to the following: 1. The veneer shall not exceed 40 feet (12 190 mm) in height above grade. Where fire - retardant -treated wood is used, the height shall not exceed 60 feet (18 290 mm) in height above grade. 2. The veneer is attached to or furred from a noncombusti-ble backing that is fire -resistance rated as required by other provisions of this code. 3. Where open or of spaced. wood veneers (without concealed spaces) are used, they shall not project more than 24 inches (610 mm) from the building wall.
