The new 4 -ton unit with its accessories weighs 686 pounds. The adapter curb weighs 96 pounds and is 12" tall. The former, existing unit was an older Lennox packaged unit and weighed 349 Ib. GRAVITY Calculations are provided to show that the new unit and curb will be safe to install. The existing roof framing will continue to safely support the roof top mounted AC equipment. LATERAL The second design issue is the anchorage of the unit for lateral loads. The area is screened from view but will be subject to the code required 1.9 factor for roof mounted equipment, therefore wind controls the lateral design of the attachment. Please reference the following pages for the lateral forces and the attachment requirements. The unit should be fastened to the transition curb using #10 self -drilling hex washer head screws @ 12"oc on all four(4) sides flange to curb. The transition curb should also be fastened using the same fasteners and spacing to secure it to the existing curb.
