Per the International Building Code, International Mechanical Code, Uniform Plumbing Code and/or the National Electric Code, every permit issued by the Building Division under the provisions of these codes shall expire by limitation and become null and void if the building or work authorized by such permit has not begun within 180 days from the issuance date of such permit, or if the building or work authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work has begun for a period of 180 days. GENERAL NOTES CONFORMANCE All material and construction methods shall conform to Chapter 246-260 WAC, "Water Recreation Facilities" published by the Washington State Department of Health, International Building Code, International Electrical Code and International Mechanical Code, International Electrical Code, latest editions, as modified by the local agency having jurisdiction. DESIGN CRITERIA The pool walls are designed to meet the load requirements resulting when the pool is empty assuming lateral earth pressure (equivalent fluid pressure of 35 psf) on the entire height of wall and also resulting when the pool is full of water assuming no lateral earth resistance for the top 2-1/2 feet of the wall. It is further assumed that the pool shall be poured against firm undisturbed soil allowing that the top 2-1/2 feet of wall may be formed and fill provided in back thereof. The soil shall have a minimum soil bearing capacity of 1,500 psf. The pool is not designed against hydrostatic uplift when empty and therefore a pressure relief valve is to be provided at the lowest point. This type of pool eliminates the use of forms on most of the work and therefore its use is limited to soils which can be shaped to the desired contour and which will retain its shape until the gunite is placed. The pool may also be poured against properly installed formwork backed by compacted granular fill. CONCRETE Gunite: 1 part cement, 4-1/2 parts sand, based on dry and loose volume; 2,500 psi © 28 days. Portland Cement Type I or II, ASTM C-150, seven sack mix. REINFORCEMENT Reinforcing steel, deformed intermediate grade, fy = 40,000 psi, ASTM A-15. Lap splices 40 diameters; support on concrete blocks and tie with 16 gage annealed wire; 2" minimum cover between earth and steel. CONSTRUCTION Maximum length of pool without control joint is 60'-0". Gunite placed monolithic and pneumatically. EARTH SURFACES To be thoroughly compacted and neatly trimmed to line and is to be grade. WALKWAYS 4' foot minimum width, concrete, non—slip finish, sloped to drain away from pool (By Others). BARRIERS Barrier protection shall be provided to prevent unauthorized access to pool facilities including: A. A barrier of sixty inches or more in height: 1. Not allowing passage of four—inch diameter sphere; 2. If it has horizontal members that are spaced less than forty—five inches between the tops of the horizontal members, shall have spaces between the vertical members no greater than a width of one and three—quarter inches; or 3. If it has horizontal members that are spaced at, or more than, forty—five inches between the tops of horizontal members, shall have spaces between the vertical members no greater than a four—inch width. 4. Lockable gates and entrances provided with a self—closing, self—latching mechanism sixty inches or more from the ground with a clear space fifty inches deep on the latch side of door to position a wheelchair. When a latching mechanism is provided at any lower height, the latching mechanism shall be of a type remaining continuously locked, and only opening with the use of a key or other access control system. B. An entrance to the pool area shall not serve as a required exit from another part of a building when there is a conflict with other codes or regulations. C. The door to the equipment room shall be lockable and locked when not in use. STEPS Edge of pool steps shall be of contrasting color from body of pool. Steps shall be of non—slip tread finish. Riser shall have a minimum unobstructed, horizontal twelve inch tread depth and a minimum two—hundred forty square inch surface area. Pool risers shall have an uniform height between 7.5 inches (preferred) and 10 inches, except for the bottom riser which may be plus or minus 2 inches of the uniform height. Spa risers shall be similar to those for the pools, except for the bottom riser which may be less than uniform height. ENERGY CODE Provide pool/spa equipment, covers, piping insulation, motors, etc. in accordance with the applicable portions of WSEC Chapter C404.10. COVERS Provide cover in accordance with WSEC Chapter C404.10.3 for pool facilities heated to 90'F or greater. Cover shall meet ASTM F1346, latest edition. Standard 16 unit first—aid kit and blanket reserved for emergency use. C. Provision of a clearly marked emergency shut off switch for turning off all pumps. Switch shall be equipped with an audible alarm to alert others at the area of the facility. The switch shall be accessible to the public and located within 20 feet of the spa. SIGNAGE AND TESTING EQUIPMENT Provide signage and testing equipment in conformance with applicable regulations.
