DATE ATTACHMENTS 12/6/21 Draft Resolution 123 124 City of Tukwila Washington Resolution No. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HONORING THE LEGACY OF JIM HAGGERTON AND HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF TUKWILA. WHEREAS, with the passing of Jim Haggerton the City of Tukwila has lost a dedicated publicservantof over 30 years and a visionaryleaderwho played a critical role in shaping the Tukwila we know today and laying the groundwork for its brightfuture; and WHEREAS, Jim and Carol Haggerton moved to the McMicken Heights neighborhood in Tukwila in 1972, where they raised two children, Terri and Carey; and WHEREAS, after many years of volunteercommunity service and youth mentorship, Jim became involved in government, serving nine years on the Planning Commission, 13 years on the City Council, and eight years as Mayor; and WHEREAS, Jim's contributions to Tukwila are countless and encompass a broad range of areas including transit expansion and access, commercial development, public infrastructure, strategic and fiscal planning, and regional collaboration; and WHEREAS, many major development and public projects in the City are directly related to Jim's leadership including the Klickitat interchange, Tukwila South Development Agreement, Link Light Rail Station, South Park Bridge, Tukwila Commuter Rail and Amtrak Station, South center Parkway, Interurban Avenue, and Tukwila Village; and WHEREAS, Jim valued the importance of regional collaboration and served in a variety of roles for the Association of Washington Cities, Sound Cities Association, Cascade Water Alliance, South center Rotary Club, King County Aerospace Alliance, Airport Communities Coalition, SCORE, and National League of Cities; and WHEREAS, Jim worked tirelessly on behalf of Tukwila to represent and effectively advocate for its interests at the county, state and federal level; and WHEREAS, Jim was an effective collaborator and had the ability to get things done for the good of the entire community; and CC:\Legislative Development\Honoring Jim Hag gerton 11-29-21 LH:bjs Review and analysis by Barbara Saxton Page 1 of 2 125 WHEREAS, Jim served his country as a United States Marine; his city as a Planning Commissioner, Councilmember and Mayor; his community as a business owner and youth mentor; and his family as a devoted husband, father and grandfather; NOW, THEREFORE, THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TUKWILA, WASHINGTON, HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: We express our deepest appreciation and sincerest heartfelt condolences to the family of Jim Haggerton and urge the entire Tukwila community to join in honoring his memory and outstanding legacy.
