Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information about any of the following items. �. Intergovernmental Update • State Auditor's Exit Conference: On November 19 the State Auditor's held the Exit Conference with City staff. The City received a clean audit for the fourth consecutive year. • AWC Federal Legislative Priorities Committee Meeting: Mayor Ekberg participated in an AWC Federal Legislative Priorities Committee meeting on November 8. • Sound Cities Association Mayors Meetings: Mayor Ekberg participated in SCA Mayors meetings on November 9 and 12. • Museum of Flight Veterans Day Event: Mayor Ekberg offered welcoming remarks at the Museum of Flight Veterans Day program on Nov 11. • National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Committee: Mayor Ekberg participated in the National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Committee meeting on November 15. • Tukwila Village Community Development Association Board Meeting: On November 16 Mayor Ekberg participated in a Tukwila Village Community Development Association Board meeting. • Briefing with King County Public Health: On November 16, City Administrator Cline participated in a Sound Cities Association briefing with King County Public Health. • National League of Cities City Summit Conference: Mayor Ekberg, Council President Kruller and Councilmember Hougardy participated in the virtual National League of Cities City Summit Conference November 16-18. • King County Climate Collaboration Committee Meeting: Community Development Staff attended the monthly King County Climate Collaboration Committee meeting. Discussion included a new countywide map that will display greenhouse gas emissions by Census Tract, and its potential uses in the upcoming Comprehensive Plan updates. Community Events • Environmental Education Workshop on Watershed Ecology: Green Tukwila partnered with Cascade Water Alliance, and Nature Vision to offer the first-ever Adult Environmental Education Workshop on Watershed Ecology held at Codiga Park in early November. The workshop covered the definition of a watershed, water testing, and a native plant walk to identify what is in the park. • Dirt Corps at Tukwila Park: Dirt Corps brought a crew out to Tukwila Park to treat English Laurel and Holly. The crew treated many invasive plants at the park that were too large to be removed by hand and needed herbicide to ensure the plant dies off completely. III. Staff Updates Public Safety • Meeting with Nordstrom on Loss Prevention Strategies: On November 17, Deputy Chief Lund had a meeting with Nordstrom management and regional loss prevention. They discussed the increase in theft from the store and strategies to help reduce crime. • Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASP() Accreditation: Chief Dreyer and Commander Boyd attended WASPC conference the week of November 15. At the conference the Tukwila Police Department was recognized for completing the accreditation process as operating under industry best practices and standards. Project Updates • 42nd Ave S Bridge Replacement: The results for the in-person open gallery and the online polling have closed and the data has been processed for the preferred bridge railing, landscaping, railing color, and lighting options. The results have been posted on the project website. The 30% plans and engineering estimate can be started first quarter 2022. • GIFT of SPORT Grant: Tukwila Parks and Recreation was awarded the GIFT of SPORT Grant: $1,000 in in-kind sporting equipment as well as 300 duffel bags filled with sporting items provided from the Good Sports Foundation and the Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation. On November 17, the Dick's Giving Truck arrived in Tukwila and the After School Program kids received duffel bags and were able to participate in games, arts & crafts, and a photo booth. At the end of the event, Dick's presented Parks & Recreation with a $2,000 check to purchase youth sports equipment. The remaining duffel bags will be handed out to Youth Sports participants this Winter and next Spring and Summer. Boards, Commissions and Committees Applications are being accepted for vacant positions. • Arts Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for December 1, 2021. VACANT: 1 Community Resident Position; 1 School District Representative; and Student Representative. • Equity & Social Justice Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for December 2, 2021. VACANT: 1 Education Representative and Student Representative. • Human Services Advisory Board: The next meeting is in the process of being scheduled. VACANT: 1 Business Community Representative. • Library Advisory Board: The next meeting is scheduled for January 4, 2022. VACANT: 1 Resident Position and 1 Student Representative. • Lodging Tax Advisory Committee: The next meeting is scheduled for December 10, 2021. All positions are 1 -year terms. VACANT: 1 Business Collecting Tax Representative and 1 Funded by Tax Representative. • Park Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for January 12, 2022. VACANT: 2 Community Representatives and Student Representative. • Planning Commission: The next meeting is scheduled for December 9, 2021. No vacancies.
